The large one is close to a metre Sticki.
It's a heck of a colour Moti - like freshly ripped open wildebeest I reckon to go with the smell!
28 Jun, 2012
a metre?!!!!!!! certainly wild!!! like the wildebeest analogy!!!

I take it you don't keep it in your bedroom Keith ? I don't know anything about these , do they feed on flies and insects ?
28 Jun, 2012
It's a biggie Sticki!
Certainly an outdoor plant Amy! They're not carnivorous, but rely on the flies for pollination.
28 Jun, 2012
it most certainly is!!! is it featured on google maps yet?
28 Jun, 2012
Wow that's brilliant I don't know much about them either except the smell:-),are they hardy ?
28 Jun, 2012
Hopefully one of my Iochroma will be in a year or two Sticki!
Simbad - they're hardy if dry, so best pot grown I reckon.
28 Jun, 2012
oh they look fabulous!!! if they are big enough they could add to the dreaming spires of oxfordshire?
28 Jun, 2012
If I site it carefully it should make a fine specimen tree. Got enough to experiment with.............
29 Jun, 2012
can you leave it in situ all year round?
29 Jun, 2012
That's the plan ultimately. I'll keep them in the shed this winter though.
29 Jun, 2012
makes me think of a triffid, i can imagine it coming out through the shed roof simply because it doesnt want to be kept locked in!!!
29 Jun, 2012
Maybe we're at crossed purposes here - I was talking about the Iochroma!!
29 Jun, 2012
Oh, sorry I was back to the dracunculus, (bit like dragon colours!?)
29 Jun, 2012
Back to old Stinky here then - they'll go in the shed in the pot and get repotted in the spring.
29 Jun, 2012
we had one in a greenhouse and when in flower i hated working in there it was awful ,,,, great pic Meanie...
29 Jun, 2012
It's a plant that I could never grow indoors, even though I do love it. You can almost taste it for hours after!!!
30 Jun, 2012
yuk!!!
30 Jun, 2012
my clothes used to stink after a few hours,,, they do look wonderful though,,
30 Jun, 2012
have to be like the elizabethans surreylad, and carry a bunch of something that smelled nicer??
30 Jun, 2012
Bit of a snazzy dresser then SL?? ;)
30 Jun, 2012
Lol Sticki, Lil ;-)
30 Jun, 2012
;-)
30 Jun, 2012
Gosh, imagine it even making your clothes smell? Yuck...such a stunning looking thing....but no, I couldn't have that in my garden...especially not if it attracts flies..but I can see why you love it! :D
30 Jun, 2012
It's a must for all gardens Karen!!!
30 Jun, 2012
lol...you reckon? ;)
30 Jun, 2012
I'm surprised you're not trying to get me to grow it in the conservatory!
30 Jun, 2012
A must?? Does it keep the slugs away?
30 Jun, 2012
I think it keeps all living things away Sticki....except the flies!
30 Jun, 2012
You could really appreciate it in the conservatory Karen!
If they had any sense they would steer clear Sticki!
30 Jun, 2012
Hmmm slugs with sense??
30 Jun, 2012
"Hmmm slugs with sense??"
Bit of an oxymoron I know!!!

Meanie:
That's incredible! Sometimes these plants don't bloom every year...you're very lucky!
1 Jul, 2012
It's been about four years since they last bloomed Delonix. I lost a few large tubers a couple of winters ago and was left with just the smallest ones.
1 Jul, 2012
This plant will grow outside in the ground there?
1 Jul, 2012
It will, but it has to be in a very free draining spot, preferably dry in winter.
1 Jul, 2012
That's amazing! I know there's some really tropical species which don't even grow well here in San Diego.
