This Wisteria is pictured last year in full flower. Unfortunately it didn't flower much at all this year for the first time. Hopefully, it's just having a rest.

I think it may be okay, cross fingers, it really frames the patio when it's in bloom. /thank you very much for the warm welcome, I love this site already.

Thank you Jem and Jamie, it is one of my better experiments. There have been a few mistakes along the way with other stuff, but that's the joy of gardening isn't it.

Beautiful, bet it smells lovely sitting on the bench.
Welcome from me too.

It certainly does, and thank you for the warm welcome. This site is so addictive I love sharing with other mad keen gardeners. Some of my friends and family think I am a bit strange I think.

What a great spot for a good muse!

Yes true, but the trouble is as soon as I sit down I see something else I need to tweak in the garden - I'm sure we all do that!

This looks stunning growing over your archway. We planted one last year and has grown quite a bit since then. How old is your one and how long did it take before it flowered? I have added this onto my favourites list

Thank you for the comments Lin. It was quite well established when we bought it and has flowered every year since then. Not profusely at first but it got better and better, except for this year when we got hardly anything. I think it may have been overpruned as both me and the husband had a go at it (we must learn to communicate more lol). I guess it is about 7 or 8 years old at least. Hoping for a good show next year though.

\thanks Bellflower. It looks like it has no leaves, does it flower first before the leaves appear?
11 Aug, 2010
Yes Lin, it flowers with almost no foliage and then the foliage emerges after the main flush and it sets off tendrils which need to be lightly pruned around June/July and then more closely pruned in Autumn. The leaves are quite attractive in their own right. The base of the plant is now about 8 inches thick and as the plant grows it winds around its support and gets thicker as the years go by. Don't know if the fence will stand up to the pressure, but it's more like the plant is supporting the trellis now.

What a lovely plant, and a pleasure to sit on the bench nearby.

It certainly is Hilda, although this year it did not flower as well as last year which is when that picture was taken. I am hoping for a good show again next year though. The scent is lovely if the weather is right too.

Thanks Sanbaz, I'm hoping for a better show for next Spring, fingers crossed, this year wasn't half as good as the year before when this pic was taken. (I believe Geoff let loose on the pruning but he won't admit to it!)

simply gorgeous! I have just planted a wisteria Black Dragon to go up over a new entrance arch into our back garden, & hopefully also over the sunroom ... I think mine has a long way to go before it reaches this stage, but I have a good imagination. My husband just stared at the 'stick' I asked him to plant a few days ago ... probably thinks I have gone crazy lol. I live in New Zealand & wisteria does well in the North Island ... just starting a garden virtually from scratch on a quarter acre section with a lovely 1910 weatherboard villa. Getting so much inspiration from this sight & hope to have pics of my own to put up in two or three years.
