No. I am putting up this piece of fence up not because of deer...(got you) but my neighbour, who just moved in and decided to make a race track for his ATV along our properties.
I can get these tree planks from a local mill and they will not interfere with the surrounding nature. I will also plant some ivy along. It grows here very quickly and will cover the fence in no time. It is only short section (120ft) along my "production" area where I spend lots of time.

They look great! 120ft is not exactly "short" though, so I hope you won't injure yourself . . .

They are very attractive and I hope they stop your neighbour from annoying you. There's nothing worse :o(

Yes, definitely nothing worse then annoying people. Maybe you should give him feedback before building the fence, that what I was learned all my life. Lol. Less effective, I would say. But the fence is beautiful, I agree. It also looks elegant with ferns.

Thanks all for liking.
It is a hard work. My DH refused to help (he dislike fences) So I balance the heavy plank on the foot, hold down with one hand and an electric screw driver in another. I am not a spring chicken any more and find it tricky. And I have my own chainsaw to cut to length.
I kind of like the fence . I do not find it offensive.
Katarina, this neighbour is very different. Ex-military with a mental problems ...I think. He does not want to talk to anybody in the neighbourhood. I do not think he had an easy time in the army. I feel sort of sorry for him. He is a hard worker and did lots of improvement around his property already. I just dislike his ATV noisy track close to mine working area.( I do not need to talk to him) He will get a hint with my fence, I think.
Unfortunately we cannot choose our neighbours. All other neighbours are wonderful.

It looks nice, hope it stops your neighbour from spoiling your enjoyment of your garden.

I like your fence Klahanie, especially the way you've put the planks in at different heights. It looks nice & natural & as you say the Ivy will soon romp over it. What is an ATV track?

ATV stands for "All Terrain Vehicle" Feverfew. also called a "quad" around here.

That is a good looking fence, me thinks! Very nice...Some 'neighbours' are a deliberate pain. They think it is okay to move in and allow their way of life to filter into and disturb what was a peaceful neighbourhood with their noise and selfish ways. Good idea to just move away so you don't have to talk or look at that person. And when you do, let the new 'neighbours' know that you won't tolerate such, right from the beginning.

Thank you for liking my fence , Gorgeousma. And thank you for your note.

Hi Klahanie, love this fence. I know it's an old photo, but I have just come across it in GoYpedia ... fence section.
Shame you had to do it, to soften the noise from a neighbours vehicle. I am sure you would have rather worked, on a slighty less strenuos project. You refer to your DH ... Am I correct in assuming that is your "Darling Husband". ??
10 Feb, 2015
Hello Alan, you are right, My "Dear Husband" did not participate in this project. We live in the country and he dislike fences. We are in Mexico right now and my other neighbour just e-mailed me that the house is for sale. I just hope that we will get more friendly neighbour there.
Will you put a new fence up? If I remember correctly you have some nice "field" view to the back. Is not GOYpedia great for different ideas?

Hello Klahanie, We are sticking with the hedge as it is great for the wildlife. As you correctly say we can enjoy the view across the farmers field. We do have neighboring fences either side. I lowered the hedge by about 40 cms, last autumn to make it easier maintenance. I guess you will be heading back to Canada soon ?

We will go home at the end of March. We are driving so it will take us a week to get there. We spend first months cleaning up the debris from winter storms and getting rid of all the accumulated moss on everything :-) and then just enjoy the island spring.....which is usually beautiful.

That's a long drive. Enjoy your spring ! ?

Thank you :-)
