When the snow was falling and the light was on, it looked like something out of "Narnia" I expected Mr Tumnus to put his head round the gate at any moment!

It's a shame, normally the other side of the gate there are three beautiful geese, but the day I took this they were off making their noise somewhere else.

Thank you Annella and everyone. We are very fortunate to live here - it's an amalgam of everything we always wanted in a house. It has it's drawbacks, some of them quite serious, (we don't photograph those) but we can overlook those. I wish I could invite everyone out here to enjoy it with us. Anyone among you who visits this part of Italy and doesn't let me know will be standing in the naughty corner for a LONG time.

I had to dash to peep out of the window at my side gate because yours looked the same as mine , it isn't quite but not far off ... is that an Ivy growing over it or varigated Euonymus ? it looks great ,I might have to copy that Lol.......

It WAS ivy, Amy. But we had to cut it back very hard on one side this year as the wall behind it was falling apart. It was a case of the ivy holding the wall up rather than the other way round. It's such a shame and looks really bare and bald, but I've taken dozens of cuttings, and we'll be growing it again (despite our neighbour's disapproval). Think it might take a year or two, though.

We have that Ivy on the side of our house it races to the top every year , you have to stop it before it blocks the gutters , sounds like you have a repair job with the wall before putting more Ivy up it :o(

OH did the repair job - not beautiful, but it doesn't matter. Just waiting for Spring, then we'll encourage the ivy again: mostly by standing by the gate and shouting "Grow, you B****r!" Usually works.

Love the gate - I often think glimpses into spaces are more intriguing than an entirely open view.

i agree elke.

Actually, the gate is mostly shutting out an entirely disagreeable view, and is vital to keep the damned ducks out of the garden!
