The octagonal seating area made from sleepers and gravel. Oh, and Molly, my 'assistant' - great at digging!

Hello Molly... welcome to GoY :o)

Molly is very happy to meet new doggy pals!....well, not really, she can be a bit choosy to be honest! Always falling out with dogs in the park, it's quite embarrassing really....should have got a labrador!

Great area ... really like that lantern in the middle. Lovely planting as well.

lol that is one thing dogs are good at digging, I use to have a dog use to wait till I planted the plant then go and dig it back up killing each plant, yes patient I am lol.

Thank you so much Valadel! I am overwhelmed by everyone's enthusiasm and kind encouragements. It's fab to be able to share the garden with you all, when you are all such great gardeners - great!

Your garden is beautiful Karen. It's so easy to see that you are a gardener. I like your assistant too, does she do a lot of digging?

Actually, although I like to joke about it, she doesn't! She has dug a small hole in the lawn behind the greenhouse - I'm sure she knew it was naughty and did it there so I wouldn't see it!! She's a really good natured Jackie and the worst she does is pee on the grass and chase the birds, but I trained her to pee on some bark chippings and I usually manage to get her to go there now. She's a lovely little dog really but you'll never get the terrier out of her! She can't help herself where birds and cats are concerned!

What is that in the middle of the octagon it looks fantastic i think its a lantern or light of some kind??

Hi Mushy, it is a firepit. It has a shelf on the inside for cooking stuff on. You put the coals in the bottom, just a covered fire really. I bought it on the web but I'm blowed if I can remember which website it was on! Try googling 'chinese fire pit' and you might get it!

Thanks Karen i'll have a look...........Mushy

Brilliant job

Thanks Paul. it is really very different now...funny looking at this pic again and seeing how much it has changed. There is a metal arch now, and the border on the right has been revamped because the drainage there was so poor.

pretty much same as me - the smell of stagnant water is not nice at all which is why the gravel garden took over.

Yes, I am very familiar with that horrible smell when digging over borders. It's even worse when you dig up a clump of old grass that's been rotting in there!!...mmm....lovely ;(

stagnant water has to be the worst smell
