Hi Dawn, thanks, yes he IS well fed ...as are the other 25 or so we had in the garden today ! Word has got out ! Blizzard here tonight as I type, and just had another 6 inches of snow in last hour !

That sounds like a lot of snow. My daughter and friends were walking in Yorkshire (near Skipton I think) last week but back home safely now. Lovely photo - Mr Blackbird certainly looks a bit put out :)
19 Dec, 2009
I hope you dont have to go out Jane.

Yes Gee,he was rather confused ! Lol Had a lot of snow in North Yorkshire las couple of days.
Dawn ,a day at home tomorrow. Will probably spend most of it taking photos and topping up the feeders and tables.Boy,can they all eat now !

Ooh his poor little feet .. why don't they freeze .. ?
19 Dec, 2009
Yes Amy they do seem remarkably resilient to these extreme temperatures though.Had to make holes in the ice 6 times today so that the birds could drink.A few hardy starlings even had a bath ! Brrrr
19 Dec, 2009
I had to make holes in the ice too - it was about a quarter of an inch thick!
19 Dec, 2009
I know, and about an hour later frozen again ! Lol
19 Dec, 2009
A sprinkling of snow here now ... do you still have snow Jane/Ray. Looks like you'll be getting through some lard and oats Jane.
19 Dec, 2009
Just stopped Dawn...garden looks magical tonight but will have all frozen over tomorrow ! Out with the spade in the morning and then the eat-fest will commence ! Lol
19 Dec, 2009
At least its stopped - like you say, those birds will be very hungry tomorrow. Do you remember when it snowed last Winter and we couldnt get out to get more food for them, our's were living on muesli and loving it.
19 Dec, 2009
Remember it well Dawn !! Sometimes it only seems like yesterday....
19 Dec, 2009
It certainly doesnt feel like we should be getting it again so soon.

Dawn...have to get to Wilkos....4 miles away..to stock up for over Christmas.Going to try and get in on Tuesday...need more mealworms and suet pellets.Their Christmas box ! Lol
19 Dec, 2009
I used up my pot of mealworms today so on an emergency packet, I cant deny the robins when they keep looking for more. I need suet balls and seed etc. too. Our nearest Wilkos is a few miles away too. Their tubs of fat balls are good though
19 Dec, 2009
Keep up the good work Dawn. This did not happen last year until after Christmas..so looks like we have a long haul !
19 Dec, 2009
Crikey sound like we are all going to Wilko's - we are going to Lynn tomorrow and will visit to get more robin food, meal worms and suet mix, also niger seeds for the finches....birds cost me more than my two cats...lol
19 Dec, 2009
True, but Wilko far better value than garden centres etc !
19 Dec, 2009
Absolutely, I always get the bird food there, haven't found anywhere cheaper (no pun intended)
19 Dec, 2009
yes i go to wilkos and indoor carboot in winter, both good value
19 Dec, 2009
Lol Busylizzy.
Agree San......
19 Dec, 2009
My family think I'm crazy because I had mealworms, bird seed and fat balls on my Christmas list :) Just in case Santa doesn't listen I have got a supply in!
19 Dec, 2009
Oh Gee thats not crazy ! Thats just what I do too ( Jane ) Dont trust Santa !! Lol
19 Dec, 2009
Not surprised that he is a fat little thing, resisng near you as he obviously does.
20 Dec, 2009
Get all my bird food from wilko's infact i've started getting some of there lose canary seed and mix it with the other seed the little sparrows love it.
20 Dec, 2009
Sounds a good idea Clarice. I get a sack of seed at a time from a local nursery. It works out at £11-00 for 20kg.
20 Dec, 2009
I dont drive so i'd so can't carry it or would have to get taxi.but thats cheap for 20kg, as i pay £1-98 for 2 kg from wilkos
20 Dec, 2009
What would the birds do without you two to look after them, and what would we do without your fantastic photos?
20 Dec, 2009
Aww thanks so much Dd....we just want to help them.In these freezing temperatures they need all the help they can get ! Great that so many on GoY do just that !
20 Dec, 2009
Blackbirds are the first to arrive in the morning and the last to leave. Until this year I only ever got the odd one or two. I was amazed this morning to see, well I had a job to count....there must have been 12 -15 of them!!! Mealworms and suet pellets seem to be the favourites!
21 Dec, 2009
True Pg..they are shadowy figures on the lawn at 7.30..last count 22..and last to leave apart from our robin ! He has the last call ! Mealworms and suet pellets top of the list ! Lol. At 3pm today the birds worked their way through one out of date (by 2 days ) madeira cake,3 mince pies and 2 scones on top of all the regular stuff !
21 Dec, 2009
....and they still took off?.... :o)))
23 Dec, 2009
Had to Pg..stood there much longer they would have frozen solid ! Lol.Our temps are really low.........: o (
23 Dec, 2009
Great pictures mate, this is my favourite because I had fifteen Blackbirds at my feeding station today.
30 Dec, 2009
Brilliant Tanny...They certainly know where to come for a good feed in your neck of the woods !
