Do you have many more Dawn ? ......... :o)

How are the tomatos ? are they ripening , did you see my greenhouse blog ? , it will be ready for tomatos next year ...... :o)

Ha ha San. Amy has been brilliant in advising me on the peach tree care.
Louise - Its outside. We moved the tree to a south facing wall last year and this year it has cropped - I bet my husband it would never have fruit but I've been proved wrong. It tasted delicious.

Hi Amy, it was exactly as you described, really juicy. There are about 20 on there but we couldnt resist trying one, any longer.
Tomatoes are all ripening now which is good - I'll check your blog out now :-)

I,m pleased you have so many for a first year Dawn , well done , they are lovely and juicy aren,t they ? much better than half ripe hard bought ones :o)

Yes, we're really chuffed Amy - thought the rain over the last week was going to ruin them but they seem fine. The tree's little canopy is planned for this winter. Also Amy, before I forget, I bought some Bordeaux Mix for the peach leaf curl, ready for next season and the label says it can also be used to help prevent blight on the tomatoes if applied in July when they are prone to it - so that's good.

You are well prepared for next season Dawn , I,m going to be asking your advice now .. LOL...

I have had several figs ... and have been going out to get one fresh for breakfast each morning , today I noticed a lot of wasps round them ..they have been eating holes in them , my old neighbour tells me that they lay their eggs in them , I won,t eat them now if they have a hole nibbled in them ....!!

8 Aug, 2009

lol yes i thought thats what you ment dawn, well done anyway :o)

8 Aug, 2009

Oh no, what a nuisance - I suppose they are just the sort of food to attract wasps. Are they all ripe enough to be taken off the plant so they cant get them?

8 Aug, 2009

OMGDawn....thats a beauty......my necterines are still like golf balls......nowhere near ready yet.....well done you.....

8 Aug, 2009

Thanks Maureen, I cant believe it. I'm always going on that we live in a frost pocket and now we have peaches! I think we were lucky not to get any late spring frosts though.
I'm getting a bit cocky now though, I set a passion flower against another south facing wall the other day - do you guys have passion flowers?

8 Aug, 2009

well done Dawn :-)

Thanks Eileen, brill, init x

~fantastic~can this mix be used on pears Dawn as my daughters start off being fine but there seems to be some mite in the leaves and they look horrible after a while.Just bought a passion flower which has shot up but think it might be going under cover over winter as still just a young plant. in a pot~not flowered yet!

8 Aug, 2009

That looks nice :o)

That looks lovely Dawn, I can taste the juice from here. Bit late though, am I right in thinking you have already eaten it? that's not nice, we were all hoping for a bite. Lol. Well done anyway.

I,ve picked all the good Figs Dawn , peeled them quartered and layed them out to freez on a tray this morning , I don,t know if they do freeze but theres only one way to find out ......LOL...

9 Aug, 2009

Arlene: Not sure, I'll read the label and let you know :-) Our new passion flower has flowers which is good but not sure what to do with it over winter.
DocBob - There are plenty more on the tree so you can pop round and try one :-)))
Amy: Hope the figs are OK and thank you Hywel.

hm.........nice and juice hmm .is there enough to share Dawn ?

9 Aug, 2009

Being as its you Deida ... of course, lol

Well done Dawn, we had a peach tree in our last houses greenhouse and had a few peaches but nothing compared to yours. We did have grape vines that grew very well along a south facing stone wall and made wine with the grapes when they had ripened. The walls take in the heat from the sun during the day and they are I suppose like storage radiators at night and keep the plants warm.

Thanks Linda. I think the peach tree has done so well because its up against the south facing wall - like you say, the wall radiates the heat at night. I've taken 2 more off today, I still can't believe it has fruited, especially where I live. We have 2 grape vines in the greenhouse, I think wine making would be a VERY good idea, lol.

We pick elderflowers and have three demijohns on the go bubbling away, but when the wine is ready it tastes lovely.
