It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas....

Only 4 weeks Pg, just down from our cottage there is a huge Norway spruce ready for switch on, beautiful tree lights all around the village. A Xmas fayre tomorrow at a pub near us and carols round the tree in a couple of weeks time.....I love it!

Lovely plant and it sounds the perfect place to enjoy the xmas celebrations!

Went to a Xmas market today in the next village to mine. Got a couple of unusual gifts there. Local towns have their lights up and turned on. I looked in town yesterday for the big tree that goes up in the square but it's not there yet. May-be this week.

That is a beautiful picture of Gautlheria procumbens. I had considered naming my WA. Nursery with that name. It is after all a native here. One trouble, a much better plantsman had once used that name in CA. His wholesale Wintergreen Nursery was at that time the jewell of the area. IMO. I managed the largest retail store at the same time.

We became good friends, though I admit I have lost touch. Nevin Smith now writes on CA. natives and lectures all over the States. It would have been reaching to take that name. Skyline it became.

We have many other Gaultherias as well. Our G. shallon that Douglas returned to England had dire consequences. It is invasive. Same for some interspecie crosses such as Gautheria with Pernettia ... Gautheris :Wisleyensis.: Nice plant, but variable in regards to its running shoes..

You guys paid us back with Gorst.

Great to read that Skyline......didn't realize there were so many types...this is just a small plant..hopefully it will creep along for next year. When you said Gorst did you mean Gorse??

3 Dec, 2008

Yup. I sometimes type to fast, and one of my fingers is sort of crooked. I broke it and just taped it up. Now I pay for it.

Ooer......think you'd make a good Wizard....Skyline...rocks n herbs n crooked fingers! Gorse is beautiful...wonderful colour....scent....easily adaptable.... but gives you a sharp kick if you get too near.......a bit like us Brits!! lol

simply beautiful picture of nature...

Thank you Orgtom. I loved the name it reminded me of childhood days. Wintergreen was a linnament used to keep the cold out when playing hockey and football on cold damp winter days!

Hello Janey, I've just been browsing through yr lovely photos, not sure I've had the pleasure b4 (what was i thinking of?!)
This is really beautiful. Do you think a nursery would be selling this plant at this time of year, and is there a particular variety to go for?

1 Feb, 2009

Pleased you enjoyed them Weeding. Now with this plant...it was from a very exclusive nursery near me....Morrisons Lol. If theres one near you have a look..they have some great reasonably priced buys.

well, that goes round in a neat circle, Janey! Morrisons is where i went mad with seed packets on Friday morning and ended up a few minutes late for work as a result.
Mind you, I did offer to share some rocket seeds with my colleagues as compensation, lol. Wonder how many will take me up on that?
At work (I only started there in June) we now have a golden thyme plant on one windowsill - also Morrison's, where else - and an ailing hyacinth bulb, christened Brian by my manager. We don't know if Brian will actually make it to flowering, I think it's a bit touch and go. They probably don't realise it yet, but I plan to take over the office with new greenery.
