Actaea close-up

Actaea close-up (Actaea simplex 'Brunette')

A very tall plant - it's about 7' tall with the flowers. The leaves are dark.

Yes - I'm glad I discovered this plant - it's been in three years now. :-)

Love this one, tall but very delicate, and the dark leaves must contrast beautifully.

It sounds wonderful....

I think it is...it's definitely one for the back of the border!

Stunning plant!

I agree - I planted two different green-leaved Actaeas(or Cimifugas??) this year, and they don't come anywhere near this one. Oh well, we all learn by our mistakes, don't we. Maybe they'll improve next year once they're established.

Oh I do hope so! :)

At the moment, while they do have buds on them, they're simply not tall enough for back-of-the-border plants. :-((

A lovely shot and beautiful plant. I'm trying to talk our nursery into bringing this in now I've discovered it. It is zoned to perhaps survive here as well. Tough things. I must give them a try.

Thanks, Gt. I do hope you succeed. I'm intending to try to track another one of these down. If I could remember where I bought it, it might be easier, but I don't. :-((

do these have bright berries too?

26 Sep, 2010

No, I've never seen any...

What a good description! Yes, it does appear to be a good healthy and hardy plant. :-)

Hiya Simbad! I can't get very close to it without diving into the border, so I'll take your word for its scent. It is a great plant, though - glad to find it growing in Lincolnshire as well as Somerset. :-))))

Lol, mines beside the pond but luckily I don't have to dive in to smell it :-))
