Amy it fruited very early, we have another Arbutus with pink flowers, only two feet tall, but it has flowers and fruit already, things grow very quickly here in the south, thank goodness!!

Is the fruit edible? I assume that birds would be attracted by the colour if nothing else

The word Unedo means eat one...........because the are revolting but you can make a liqueur from the berries, I believe it to be Greek.

Angela we've been away for 10 days near Cirencester also Warwick , we managed to squeeze in a visit to Westonbirt Arborium we were disappointed to find the majority of the leaves had fallen from the trees but I had a brilliant buy in the plant section I bought an Arbutus unedo 'Atlantic ' priced at £17.99 sale price £5.00 it has flowers on it but no fruit , its shape isn't that good would you prune it into a decent shape ,I'm going to put photos on when I get time !

Hi Amy, that was a bargain, dont prune it until next year, or even a few years down the line, they do not take kindly to pruning in their early years, we did not prune ours until it was ten years old, when we lifted the canopy...

I've put my photo's on a blog Angela ,I'm not sure if you can see enough of it to see it's condition ,some of the leaves are going slightly yellow I'm not sure if that normal or if its pot bound !
