Getting in to orange now! Shirley, look away..or perhaps not?

Have dotted orange around this year, because I do like the odd splash of colour in the borders....

Carole, purple and orange is one of my favourite, if not my very favourite combo....this orange with the purple of my iris 'thriller', peach with lilac, apricot with pale mauve, burnt orange with indigo....you can't beat it can you? ;) Thanks moti and DD! I've always been a bit anti- it's funny how you can get a 'thing' about a colour. Harsh yellow is another one....the colour of oil seed rape...not fond, find it quite aggressive...but put it beside some blues...and you have stunning beauty. It's all about where you put them isn't it? ;)

Dont forget the orange ballerina tulips for next year - they are fab! I love orange flowers because Ive got lots of purples and blue flowers add a touch of lime green and - perfection love it!!

Oh, now there's a plant I can't abide....sorry J!! No idea why! irrational! sorry! ;)

Nope ... still can't be doing with anything orange in the garden, Karen! ... especially the 'Jaffa' colour of Nasturtiums ... or Gazanias ... or Marigolds ... all of which Mum has dared to let grow in her garden ... she'll lose my gardening services before too long ... lol!

Karen, just read this again, and noticed you are planning a 'hot bed'. Have you read 'the bold and brilliant garden' by Sarah Raven? Its just full of the most amazing plants (not french marigolds...ughhh) Also euphorbias with the purple and orange tulips give just the right touch of lime green in the spring. I do hope you can do this project soon. Please let us all know how you get on.

Poppylover, thank you! I do love the way that Sarah Raven combines colours. They always look so rich don't they? The 'hot border' has kind of been hijacked by the pond now I'm afraid. The plants on one side of the pond are all hot colours and I am happy with that. I'm not really a herbaceous perennial gardener...I don't have the space to grow things that completely disappear in winter. My garden is visible all year around, so needs to have all year interest, which is why I focus on evergreens and small trees and shrubs. I'm about to learn about HP borders though...on a volunteer project. So I'll be thinking a lot this year about hot colours and heights of planting etc, but not in my own garden. :)
