Pretty pink and Gold Honeysuckle

Janey

By Janey

Pretty pink and Gold Honeysuckle (Lonicera periclymenum (Honeysuckle))

I'm really pleased that this Woodbine has flowered well, it had a good haircut in the spring, and I thought I'd lost the flower buds.

Thanks everyone...:o) The scent is amazing Flori, and this one flowers just as the cream and yellow one is fading, so the scent is there quite a while...........
I wonder why your's isn't flowering San.....maybe they have to grow to a certain height? Thanks Jane...:o)

9 Jul, 2010

It must be wonderful to see that lovely tower from your garden :o)

9 Jul, 2010

even the leaves have dropped off janey, just dont think its in the right place some how, will cut back and replant i think

9 Jul, 2010

All the buds on mine fell off before they opened. I've cut it down in disgust lol. I'll plant it somewhere else I think.

9 Jul, 2010

glad im not alone hywel lol

9 Jul, 2010

That's a shame San and Hywel...I wonder if they've been too dry....this one is in direct sun all day and the soil's not that brilliant, but i give it lots of water....saying that though it was here when we came and looks to be quite old, so the roots probably run real deep.........

9 Jul, 2010

Lovely backdrop Janey. The honeysuckle's doing well.

11 Jul, 2010

Yes I think it's too dry where I've planted mine Janey. I'll be moving it in the autumn.

11 Jul, 2010

cut mine right back today hywel and going to pot it and see what happens

11 Jul, 2010

Thanks Cg.....its great in the evening.....sounds like a good thing Hywel, they are quite tough climbers......I love your cactus avatar...:o)
It may like it's roots in the cool and flowers in the sun San, like a clematis.......

11 Jul, 2010

i thought about that janey, so will try to get it going again then find a nice spot for it ;o)

11 Jul, 2010

Yes....I'm sure it'll do well once established....it's been so dry till now.....

11 Jul, 2010

yes very dry janey, taken ages with watering can, we have a ban here, do you ?

11 Jul, 2010

Yes I'm a cactus for a while lol until I get fed up with it :o)

11 Jul, 2010

being a catus could be a bit prickly hywel im sure ;o))

11 Jul, 2010

lol :o)
They'd be all right in a hosepipe ban. We've had drizzly showers. The soil is still dry though.

11 Jul, 2010

yes more like drizzle here hywel, yesterday was a bit heavier but not enough, you catus must be very happy with this dry weather ;o)

11 Jul, 2010

Ours is rock hard....I've been using the hose-pipe, as we've no ban here, but I don't think it does much good, it seems to pack the soil hard and then it's solid, I must admit I've given up on it a bit, let nature take it's course. I'm hoping there will be some soft rain tomorrow...seems strange to hope for rain doesn't it?

11 Jul, 2010

it does seem strange janey, but my soil the same , cant dig into it at all, soild ;o(

11 Jul, 2010

Grrr....San Lol...I always think of you when I see that, I'm chuffin fed up with it aren't you.....we spend all that time and money in the garden, then it all dries up and that's that.......from now on I'm going to put whatever I would have spent on plants etc each week away.....and then go on holiday, the garden can fry!!

11 Jul, 2010

lol janey, it does make you wonder why we bother, and then the water board tell us we cant hose our gardens after all the work and money,,,, damn cheek,, then they want us to plant more for wildlife, cant win,, baz would be happy for me not to buy anymore plants hahah

11 Jul, 2010

Don't listen to Baz Sandra lol...
My soil is like dust, eventhough we've had some showers it's made no difference. It's like trying to dig a hole in dry sand - impossible. It's dry for a few inches down in places. The ground is so warm the rain evaporates as soon as it touches the soil.

12 Jul, 2010

Yep mine is too Hywel...we have rain today thank goodness....where I've been watering though, it stands on top and then just rolls off.....black dust...:o( I'd already decided to change a lot of the planting before the hot spell to more drought tolerant plants....so that's the next project.........

12 Jul, 2010

lol hywel,, dont worry i never do haha

12 Jul, 2010

Good ! :o)) lol That's the way Sandra :D

Janey I think that's a good idea. Looking forward to hearing more about it :o)

12 Jul, 2010

It's quite a wide border at the foot of this wall and the length of the garden, south facing....so when it's sunny it is hot and dry with no shade. We'll dig out and keep the plants we want, dig over the whole border adding compost and topsoil and any water retentive matter. Then divide it into sections and use grasses, lavenders, silver-leafed plants, and any sun-loving and drought tolerant ones. In between the sections we'll use golden pebbles as a mulch and also somewhere to stand whilst gardening, at the front will be a pebble path, so we'll need to dig up a strip of grass the full length of the garden too....well that's the idea...mmm...it's just doing it..Lol!!

12 Jul, 2010

It sounds a lot of work but will look nice. I love lavender, and the golden pebbles sound interesting :o) It's just what you need in a hot dry situation.

12 Jul, 2010

It is Hywel.....the water prices now are sky high and it takes such a long time to water doesn't it, I'm looking forward to giving it a go...:o))

12 Jul, 2010

I only water plants that look like they're wilting lol. It's difficult carrying a watering can
Will you do it in the autumn ?

12 Jul, 2010

Yes when everythings dying off Hywel....then I can see what needs doing.....I shall keep all the climbers as they are....they seem to be quite happy...:o))

12 Jul, 2010

It will be nice to keep them as a backdrop. It's better to do things like that in the autumn. As you say things will be dying back and you'll be able to see the area better. Good luck :o)

12 Jul, 2010

Thanks Hywel...I've pm'd you...:o)

12 Jul, 2010

What a lovely picture, you are going to be busy by the sound of it, we cant let ours go now as we have to open next year, dont want any negative feedback, I want a holiday and a beautiful garden lol

13 Jul, 2010

Thanks for that Dd...:o) We shall keep the honeysuckle, but need to change the plants as the soil is very poor. Of course you open yours well done...such a lot of hard work it must be..........but I want what you want...garden and hols...lol!!

13 Jul, 2010

What a nice spot janey-looks very pictureque ;-)

13 Jul, 2010

Thanks Richard.....:o))
