Musa 'Golden Finger' - Golden Finger Banana Plants (Musa 'Golden Finger' - Golden Finger Banana)

My Golden Finger bananas are growing very well, even though it's winter. This variety of banana has commercial quality fruit. Photo taken Feb. 17, 2011.

Now why would you need a greenhouse???? Not hot enough for you?

Alexandramou:

Not that again! lol! :>)

I start all my seeds in this little unheated greenhouse...as it gets regularly up to more than 100F/32C. from spring - fall. A couple of weeks ago the roof blew off during a strong Santa Ana Wind...now it has a shade cloth roof. :>)

Well Delonix, how can one help but teas you....
Now that is a really good idea...I've been wanting a greenhouse to start my seeds too. Saw a really nice one that can lean up against the house.
I keep dropping hints to my OH.

Alexandramou:

It's a good idea to have a little pop-up greenhouse, like mine. You can control the water and keep it from the elements, and bugs (most of the time).

Good luck with the dropping of the hints! :>)

Its not common as you know Andy to see green banana leafs in Feb in the midbay. SF- Oakland, yes.

They seem to wilt at Hayward 34f-even 35f or 36f temps. Its doesn't have to be 32f.

Yes, I know. I grew bananas up there; however, in Mission San Jose, Fremont they did really well even in winter. Although, the leaves looked yellowish and would get torn up by storms...and they don't grow much at all, not like here in winter. Bananas here put out 2 leaves each winter...however, in summer they can put out 6 or 7 or more a month.
