Understated i think Meanie, looking Excellent great plants..

These grow wild like weeds in the woodlands in Japan ;o)
Therefore, for me, it's strange to see this plant grown in the garden. -- No offense meant here, it's simply my thought. By the way, the first line here sounds like Delonix, talking about tropical plants! Lol!!

Can someone tell me...does this spread much?

17 May, 2012

Not really Scottish..Think of it a bit like Hosta's, it grows on a rhizome, so if it gets a little large just divide it. It is not invasive or difficult.

Cheers P....one last question - does the foliage disappear like Dicentra does later in the year.
I'm thinking - Dicentra, Hosta and this in a wee group - obviously the hosta would take over from the Dicentra but don't know what this does

Yes...it dies back..ferns as well look good with it

We are well on the same page P :)))))

Thing is though Scottish remember it will grow towards the light...so if you want it to arch over the pond make sure you plant it so that it will grow the right way.

Mine is beginning to spread but not in a clump

17 May, 2012

Lovely Meanie , I really like these I grow them behind the Hostas so that they arch over them ......

17 May, 2012

No probs at all Scottish!

Thanks Amy - lots of ideas as to where I could site these coming along.

17 May, 2012

only 2 years max in that position.

I'm going to pop along to Binnys tomorrow and have a look at the ones he has. I'll ask about the clumping or spreading for you Sticki. Although I don't know which staff are going to be working - they are at Chelsea for the first time this year!

18 May, 2012

hope they do well at chelsea!!

thanks scottish

Sticki....asked about the clumping or spreading - they should naturally clump up over time apparently.
Bought some today :)

19 May, 2012

:)..You can make/fake a clump

19 May, 2012

thank you scottish, perhaps i should be more patient, dont mind waiting for these though, i like them

how pimms?

19 May, 2012

Though about Sticki saying her's were spreading and not clumping P.....bought 3 - so will plant closely - then I can split at later date :)

19 May, 2012

It is simply by using division Sticki..These grow on a long Rhizome, I think that is an evolutionary thing so that the plant does not compete with itself for light...see meanies pic..but if you divide and replant two or three rhizomes right next to each other you get a good clump rather than a trail.

19 May, 2012

that's the way to do it Scottish.. exactly what I meant to say..:)

19 May, 2012

ok, thank you, have to try to remember ~ in autumn?
