I've kept salvia for three years at most. I think it depends on the wetness of the winter:-)

My salvia patens 'Guanajuato' has come through two winters now, but I still take cuttings as insurance

I intend to take some under cover this year - I have three in pots. I just hope Amistad survives for next year!
