I'm confused!

Lulu asked me a Q. on my last blog saying, ‘was the photo of Scabious, that I had taken, in fact Knautia??’ Does anyone know if they are the same family or even the same flower!!!???

This is Knautia.

and this also Knautia, both purchased summer 2011.
NOW…..
These next 3 pics. are a new plant I purchased a few weeks ago called, Scabious..atropurpurea.

See what I mean, have I been duped, did they see me coming at the GC.? or is it off to the funny farm for me!
Worried & confused of the south east! Lol.

Grandma I have just googled it and apparently Knautia is also caled the Field Scabious so they must be the same family ;0)

Yep, they are the same family (Dipsacaceae, gawd blimey imagine try to say that out loud) - whether there's some difference in the leaves, I'm not sure - are the leaves the same on both plants, Grandmage?

I used to have Knautia Macedonica (Macedonica Scabious) - just found an old label. I found that this suffered really bad from mildew but the small blue scabious has shown no signs (yet).
From memory the leaves on the Knautia are larger - although that could just be because the plant was older or me for that matter :))

I see you have been having a laugh while I was away!!! LOL.........
Thanks Pp & Bam. It looks like they are the same then with a fancy name for each! I will go out tomorrow (Dark now) and pick a leaf from both plants and then see, as for you TT, I am speechless Lol!! and you Hywel & T.bear, what am I going to do with you all! Detention, I think!! and Scot. well think it looks like they are one of the same doesnt it? At least I have planted them at opposite ends of the border. LOL.
Cheers all.

Thought I was being thick GM, but thought I'd just point it out.
I didnt think you would let anyone get one over on you :-)

I read TT's comment and forgot about your flower lol sorry. Well they do look the same don't they. It's probably some very small character that puts them in different genera.

Very pretty both of em 0))))

Lol Willi, this has baffled me & Hywel not to worry, I didnt notice till you told me Lol! Thanks Crissie too, I have come to the conclusion they are the same, I have looked at the leaves and they are very similar too, i am now going to call this plant 'knaughty scab' !!!! Lol

Of course you could just be having one of your moments and planted the same plant twice. ;))

Thanks for that Pim!!! Lol. I still have the label from the GC. so there!!! Thats why I am confused, but they could have labelled it wrongly anyway. Will go and check your thingamybob now.
