Do you remember how this area looked on saturday 1st May 2010?

This is how it lookes today 3rd May 2010 Bank holiday Monday

We have planted up the area a bit more. I’ve added, Blazing Stars Freeshia, & Tulips bulbs but you can’t see them yet! lol, Creeping Jenny in the holes in the bricks aroound the pond. Planted some Mallow, Achilea, Cocosnia and 2 varieties of Fuchsias and Armeria around the pond.

A couple more grasses have been planted by the side of the pond to make it look a little more natural:- Japanese Sweet – Flag Acorus ogon. Golden Sedge – Carex Evergold and frosted Sedge – Carex Frosted Curis. I bought an Acer tree and placed it at the back of the pond planted in a pot which will be sunk into the soil, as I don’t want it to get too big!

I have one plant in the pond – Trumpet lilly (I’ts a start!).

Oh boy when we turned around this area is looking so good the rest of the garden looked neglected!! So guess what, yep, we gave it a makeover!!! Who needs Ground Force lol. Before I show you all the photos it’s a work in progress. I have ordered seveal plants, they’ve not arrived yet. Will there be space for them I wonder….probably not lol

We started by using a piece of rope to design the new borders. I have decided to put all the veg beds on the right hand side of the garden as this now gets most of the sun; thanks to my neighbours putting up a 6 foot fence. The beds can not be moved at the moment as its the growing session and the veg is growing!

Once we had decided to widen the borders and create my wavy path, we all went mad, that’s after having a bit of arguement about wether to make the path out of bark, gravel or grass. Lets just say the jury’s still out. We decided to leave it a couple of days and see how we feel.

We added height to the new borders by piling up soil and adding compost in different parts of the garden to make it all more interesting.

This is the back fence left hand side. The blackburry is growing here in it’s second year now. I’ve planted some Fuchsias here and Stachys – Lambs tongue and a small Lavander.

coming down the garden a bit we have a wider border. This now includes Ice plant, a couple of strawberry plants a Field Scabious, daffs, bluebells and Eurphobia, Geranium and some Verbena.

Next is what I call Magic’s bush – Viburnum, again the border has been widened and the nettles removed and the couch grass!

We have a Climbing White Hydrangea linking into the the wildlife area. I will move the box hedge (still growing into a hedge lol) to the right hand side of the garden in Autumn, to make the dividing wall to the veggie beds.

Right hand side of the garden still needs to be done. Rome wasen’t built in a day. Phew what a day. We are all tired now!! My arm is killing me as is my back and the kids backs to. But when I look at what we’ve all done, in between tha bouts of heavy rain and the hail stones!!! (well it wouldn’t be a bank holiday without rain would it!! But hail stones as well – give us a break gardening here lol) I’m amazed at the transformation.

Right, hot showers all round. Back to work for me tomorrow so not sure when the right side of the garden will get done. It is getting there now, I can see it evolving.

We also had time to plant up 2 troughs, that at the moments are sitting at the entrance to the path

Right were off to bed Night night folks.

it will take about a year to realy settle in with the plants etc but its looking good and the wildlife will get in there well before it looks settled .next year if you know of someone with tadpoles or eggsgrab a few before they have eggs and you will help frogs and or toads being so rare . common frog is quite an ironic name for a very rare amphibian . dont get adults with legs as they will leave and go home or die trying.frogs and toads have a homing instinct.

A whole year!! You know how impatient I am Nosey lol.
Im ahead of you there. A friend has frogs in his garden, I have already asked him if he could let me have some frog spawn next year. Just hope he remembers

7 May, 2010

well im the same but nature im afraid did not create this beautifull stunning awsome work of art called earth and take 500 trillion years to do it just to make any mistakes now and put wildlife in your pond at the wrong time im afraid lol .the spawn is the best way .what you must remember is generaly frogs and toads dont go in the pond apart from to breed so your little froglets that hatch next year could take a few years to mature enough to come back and breed but its still the quicker step .youl love it when it happens anyway .
if something is to quick you will miss it or not be able to relish it .

Just thought I'd say, just in case, it looks like you've piled soil up around the base of Magic's Viburnum. It's often not very good for trees and shrubs to have soil piled up around them as it can cause rot to set in, so if that's what's happened you might like to level that soil out to what it was before.

8 May, 2010

i agree with sid the plant changes between how it is above the soil and below it and its importent to keep that level the same .saying that a lot of bonzei growers move soil awayy from the roots a bit at a time so id say its much worse moving it higher on the plant rot etc .

8 May, 2010

LOL Sid always done a few flowers lol, but WAS more into veggies before joining this site! Ah Sid thanks for telling me about the Viburnum, I did wonder if that was a good idea. Better sort it out pronto thanks!
