Voracious Chameleons

Peaky in her setting

Zooming in on Peaky

Putting buckets of garbage under the bougainvillea, to attract flies, turned out to be not such a good idea. The chameleons cottoned on too well and started hanging around the buckets too low down in the bush, where Jessie Cat could easily spot them. So we removed the garbage to another place where it may continue to breed flies for the whole property.

SBG: Flies and similar insects have become too scarce because of murderous use of insecticides, which also kill and maim the animals that eat them. These insects need encouragement because they serve as food for chameleons. -GSB.

You put it nicely, thank you. I admit to some bias - I do not see chameleons as needing to "serve" as food for butcher birds (Fiscal shrike) yet they often do. David and I would certainly not welcome any shrike we saw in these parts.
