New Garden

Been in the new house 14 months, big, big mistake to move here. I can’t tell you how much I don’t like living here! The garden is a quarter of the size of the old place, its 24ft long & 18ft wide, but I didn’t mind, it’s better than no garden at all. In a very shorts space of time the nasties reared their heads and I don’t mean the slugs! Anyway that aside the garden has had a complete makeover, from all grass to not a blade in (well apart from the couch grass that comes in from next door) sight. It’s jam packed with my favorite plants from other garden the ones I just couldnt leave behind. I know I said jam packed, but, I’m sure I could find some more spaces in the borders for plants I’ve never tried before. There was only one casualty, a grass which was behind all the taller plants in a bucket with (an oversight in the upheaveal) no drainage holes, one of the many things used to transfer plants – I even had some things in hessian sacks and just kept them watered – not ideal but it worked!

Very kind of you to say so - thank Louisa. Hopefully somewhere will turn up!

So do you think you will move again to get away from whatever you don't like? Shame after all that hard work in the garden and you'd have to move your plants again!

I'm really sorry to hear you don't like your new place Helenium, that must be awful for you. You have done wonders with your garden though, it's looking smashing from your pictures.......and it's great to see you here again....:))

Thanks Janey x At least I know the site is a relaxing place to be - I'm among friends here. Hope your garden is growing well.

Louisa if I could move tomorrow I definitely would, I wouldn't think twice! I know it would be a job digging out all the plants, but, I know with a little TLC they'll be fine

I'm sorry to hear you don't like you new place. I can understand how you feel, because I'm not too fussed about where I live either.
But we have to do the best of a bad job sometimes, and you have created a lovely garden. Maybe it will help you settle in a bit better.

I've lived in the same house for 47 years, almost all my life, can't remember anywhere else, so for me home is home! Some years have been easier than others in terms of things going on around us, but the hassle of moving is way too great so we stay put.

DON'T MOVE LOUISA. This is my advice. I moved house 25 years ago and I am still having nightmares from all the hassles. It took us 2 whole years and thousands of pounds spent on surveys and solicitors due to the existing system. People in the chain below and above us, either changing their minds or being unable to get a mortgage, not to mention the gazumping and the blackmail the very last moment by asking for reduction of the price.
Sometimes of course, all your neighbours move and you feel a stranger in your own street. I now live in my present house for 25 years and nearly all houses in my street (more than 200) changed occupants 2 and 3 times. I do not know what happens in other areas of the country, but where I come from, people built their own houses and live their on their life, until they pass them over to their children.

Hywel, nice to hear from you again, isn't it just terrible when you feel non plussed about the place that's supposed to be your home?
Louisa, how lucky you are to have lived in the same house all those years, there will be many memories attached to it. If it doesn't bother you too much, wouldn't you rather stay where you are? That's not the case in my situation, it bothers me immensely - to put it politely - I'm at the end of my tether with it all. Everyone I have told about this debacle, there first words were, move house! Everyone who has rented this house, in the last 30 years, have moved due to the same problem, a real nightmare we didn't know about until after a few weeks of moving in. Where I live, (with two exceptions) people have lived in their houses between 25 - 56 years, the latter being when they were built.

If you live in a place you know won't improve, and you're unable to change, maybe the best thing would be another move ... but it would entail more expense.
Maybe it would be worth the effort though, if you can afford it. It's not good for your health if you're under constant stress.
I came to live here because it was near my elderly and unwell parents, but they died shortly after I moved. I wish I had waited until they died, and then bought a house in a nicer place.

Helenium, I do want to stay in this same house, it's all I know, but am a little unsure about the future as it belongs to my parents. They're leaving it to me, but if they start to need care I worry that the house may need to be sold to pay for it, then I won't have anywhere to live :(

Louisa, that is a worry, I certainly would be going to citizens advice bureau, to find out what rights you have.

Oh Hywel, that was a shame, poor you!
Thank goodness there has been nothing done to the house, but, to be honest it was in very good condition. I've only made improvements to the garden, but no more will be spent on either.

Sorry I missed this Helenium, I didn't realise that you'd moved house. I'm sorry to hear that it hasn't been a positive move. I don't much like moving...it's too stressful. I hope that after this time we shall never have to do it again! hope things get better for you before too long.

Thanks Karen, its too stressful to stay here. It's shocking how others get away with making peoples lives hell on a daily basis and nothing can be done about them! Never mind, we'll just keep looking for somewhere else!

Oh Helenium.... I didn't realise you were so unhappy. I don't suppose any of this helps with all the other things going on at this time.Try to keep smiling. I'm just reading your blogs, and looking at your lovely plants you've got, and if you have to move, I hope you find something soon. Keep thinking positive.
