A very rainy June day in North Yorkshire

Ohhhhhhhhhh, I am a bit fed up. The rain is coming down in buckets and I keep having to dish out first aid to various plants in the garden and in tubs. The weight of the rain, is finally breaking stems and branches. been out in the pouring rain to try and show you how wet it is. Looking at the pics, it makes our place look nicer than it is in real life, if you know what I mean. The camera does lie, it misses out the bits you don’t want to show people. Any way if it gets much worse, I am packing a bag and coming out to see those of you in sunnier climes. Karen, I’d be panicking if I were you. lol Jx

This is from one of the kitchen windows onto terrace and back field. Wet, wet, wet.

This is from the kitchen out to veg garden patio. Yeup, you might notice we have LOTS of areas to sit in. Well you never know where you might want to sip on a nice cold drink of something!! All I can think of are the weeds, the slugs and the bl***y rain. No sitting out at the moment.

This is sort of the other angle from the same window, towards the veg garden and pond. Paul, pond not been done yet, still just as it was dug out, without any futher work. Might have to ask you to come up and get to work. Lol.

Kitchen window up the back field. You should hear the rain coming off the hill, all going under the terrace and into the River Aire. The new terrace has about 5 drainage channels either side of it, under it and behind it. It was a major engineering job. Probably wise considering the rain we get.

Fair bouncing

My grand entrance up to the new terrace. Okay it’s a bit!!! wet today and I think we’ll pass onthe bbq tonight. The pond is immediately to the left of the steps.

Wet pond – and that’s on the edge of it, not in it. Iris’ got fed up with rain and shed beautiful blooms. Grrr.

Wet standard rose, that was a bit iffy, before the rain drowned it.Loads of buds though.

Wet view from front door.

Even wetter view from same front door!

This bed does have that intense colour that the rain and ensuing light, sometimes give. Had to stake the freesia on way to work this morning. It was looking a little er.. well flattened really.

Looking down the front flower bed, by the front door and on to the farm yard. The antirrhinums are very slow this year. Well, they did come up from last year, but a sheep got out and ate them :(( . It also ate the hydrangea, the one in the pic is a brand new one to replace it – just loads smaller:(

FINALLY, some little friends that wanted to be inside, where the heating is ON!

Can a cat smile any more than that!

Well folks that is it for today. I am begining to seriously worry about all the rain and the damage to the plants. Thought I’d better take some pics, whilst I still had a garden, before it ends up in The River Aire, along with the run off. Oh, should include a hard earned top tip here. DON’T put too much water retaining gel in your hanging baskets. Why? Because they get bl***y heavy in the rain and pull the brackets out of the wall. Not a good look for a hanging basket, upside down with the plants all squashed…………………..!
I have a sheepy blog to write as well, as took some pics of Mick hand clipping sheep. I will save that for another wet day, when It’s too rainy to play out!
Bye all, off to supplement the 5 a day, with fermented grape juice. Will raise a glass to you all.
Love Jane x

It's a better alternative to football,anyway....An Ark would be a great idea...where your caravan is,on higher ground !
Give Noah a call :o)

16 Jun, 2012

Damn football!

16 Jun, 2012

OMG Mick taped a series (not finished yet) called Hit and miss on Sky Atlantic. It is sitting on the edge of your seat good. Better than football. Well that wouldn't be difficult for me, watching paint dry is better than football.

Great blog Jane.... love the grand entrance, and the front border looks smashing despite the rain :) x you live in a very picturesque (sp) part of the world, I love Yorkshire, big difference from my outer city housing estate view x

16 Jun, 2012

Thanks Mag. I love Yorkshire too. But then I also love so many other parts of the UK. Going to Cornwall for a week soon. Can't wait, rain or no rain. Cider!!! Food!! Wine!! Gardens!! Bring it on. Jx

O.M.G. That is wetter than wet! It must be so depressing for you poor souls. Whenever I have the sort of problems that living abroad throws at us, I try to remember this sort of weather, and it evens up the balance. You do have some incredibly green and beautiful countryside, though, and there are times when I miss it dreadfully. It's been too hot to sit outside for more than a few minutes at a time today (39°c), so I've been stuck inside, ironing and blitzing the kitchen. So not so very different, eh?
I love your cats, by the way, Jane - ours don't know they are supposed to be feral, either. Little tinkers.

Ohh Italy, I could be packing a bag as I type! lol. What about a round the world GOY trip. Starting in Europe of course, and missing out places it rains a lot. Depressing it most certainly is just at the moment. I nearly called my blog 'Help I need cheering up' Jx

Oh I`ve had enough of the weather, I`ve even been reduced to going shopping four times this week with my daughter, I hate shopping normally but it was a case of finding something to do as she was on holiday, we had a couple of dryish days but it was more like winter even on those and the wind is either spoiling the plants that aren`t drowning or blowing down the fencing.
Even in the wet your garden looks grand Jane and you have a great outlook, must be fab when the sun is out, I well remember the sheep eating your plants, if I remember correctly mint sauce was recommended, lol.

16 Jun, 2012

Jane, this is the land where the grape grows, and Ryanair doesn't like bottles in luggage.......

17 Jun, 2012

Looks great all the same Jane - the garden will thrive from it too - I do very much like the wall and seating area you have !!:))

17 Jun, 2012

Thanks Jane..you will be seeing lots of lovely places soon, everywhere is lovely :o)

17 Jun, 2012

I love your rainy photos, but I like rain anyway ....
however, enough is enough ! lol

17 Jun, 2012

Thanks all for looking. Yes Gattina, coals and Newcastle do rather spring to mind.
Oh lincslass, I was distraught when they ate all my roses. Mint sauce is the ultimate revenge though. lol Jx

17 Jun, 2012

Ugh what a week! Thank heavens for Goy and lovely fun blogs like this....:0)
had a pair of cades some years ago, so naughty we called them lamb chop and mint sauce........

17 Jun, 2012

My goodness! Seems like everybody's got a new face today!!! :)))

But, I really do feel for you, Jane...
Do you reckon it's deliberate, just because you got a lovely new terrace?? It would make a nice swimming pool though...half-full already... x

17 Jun, 2012

That is soooo mean, KF!

17 Jun, 2012

I meant it as a compliment! Honest!

17 Jun, 2012

17 Jun, 2012

...as soon as I can make a break for it, I'll join you Pam...;)

17 Jun, 2012

Its not raining here and I'm making marscapone coffee cake.....oops spoke too soon started again.......!

17 Jun, 2012

Big lols. Karen, was half thinking of asking Mick to dig part of it up and sink me a proper pool. Reasons why I didn't. 1). I would be under it as he's still not got over doing the terrace. 2). We would only use it about 3 days a year. Yesterday, came close though.
Been at work all day, and it's not raining, so going to sit in swingy seat thing and have a glass of something.
Cheers all. Jx

17 Jun, 2012

Lol! It's always better to be on the patio, than under it!!

Hope you enjoyed!!! x

18 Jun, 2012

Sorry I'm a little late hun but those views are stunning! I can imagine it all on a sunny day. Can't wait for the sheepy blog xx Lol!

Sheepy blog perhaps tomorrow if weather rubbish, as will be inside :o(

18 Jun, 2012

As long as they are not nibbling the roses this year x

18 Jun, 2012

Oh don't even go there. They usually wait till we are away................. and William wouldn't notice if one got into bed with him, let alone if they were wandering round the garden. x

18 Jun, 2012

Lols!! William & the sheep/Mick in the all together chasing burglars.....must get some work done now ;O)))))))))

20 Jun, 2012

Just never a dull moment Ann!! :o)

20 Jun, 2012

Hi Jane, I'm trying to catch up on blogs...impossible task. I really enjoyed this and am knocked out by all your beautiful views. I wouldn't mind staying in if I had views like yours from my windows. I love all your paving and especially your grand entrance...did you OH do it all? if so he's a genius. How lovely, and unusual, that all your cats get on so well...your poor dog must feel a little outnumbered:-)

3 Jul, 2012

Oh BA poor Snoopy (the dog). He hates cats, but knows he isn't allowed to touch them. If a dog can look long suffering, then at times, he does.... The cats also know he isn't allowed to touch them, so sometimes they line up and bat him with their paws as he walks past. Honestly, he has his head down, staring fixedly at the floor, muttering to himself.
Generally, though, they all get on pretty well, they have to and there is enough space for them all here. Jx

3 Jul, 2012

Lol Jane cats can be evil can't they:-))

3 Jul, 2012
