Dressing gown gardening

Following Karensusan’s lovely ‘fear not novice gardeners’ blog, just thought I’d add a little piece!
Does anyone else wonder round the garden in their dressing gown, with a cup of coffee (tea if you prefer) eying up plants and thinking ‘ummmmmmm not sure about you there matey, might just resight you – eventually’. Only to find 2 minutes later you have a trowel/spade in your hand and are undertaking some major restructuring program?
I have gone out this morning in my pink and fluffy with toasted teacake and coffee in hand – sat on the bench by the front door in some glorious sunshine and then suddenly decided I HAD to move a great big green thing that looks like it might flower soon – ish, but had gone all brown and mildewy at the bottom and a r***y great laylandi from the centre of the bed. It started off cute and small, but just got too big and was taking the sun off everything else. Both can be seen on the rainy day blog pics. The tall green thing is by the freesia.
Unidentified green thing, now at the back of the house behind the terrace, where it can do its thing for a while (till I see what it does do, not entirely convinced it isn’t a gigantic weed yet) and laylandi, sat in pond till I can think where to put it.
Major problem now……………… two big holes in front flower bed. Looks like a trip to the garden centre oh and dressing gown might just need to go in the wash. Jx
The plants I bought.
Transplanted into the garden.

Hi Jane,
I am always in the garden in my dressing gown and flip flops and often like you get caught up with trimming or transplanting various things, then I go back in make another coffee, then I am back out again, on my days off sometimes its gone 1pm and I realise I have still got my dressing gown on, I just get so carried away and absorbed, luckily we are not overlooked so I can get away with it!!!
18 Jun, 2012
Oh, I recognise this scenario only too well! Luckily, like Marion, I am not overlooked at all, which is just as well.
18 Jun, 2012
Very luckily neither are we, me in dressing gown is not ideal viewing....the postman has had therepy now though and is nearly used to it.
Marion, I too have flip flops on and can also lose days in my dressing gown. some of my best gardening is definately done whilst pink and fluffy. You will be pleased to know, I have put normal clothes on to go to the garden centre though! Byee off to shop for plants. Jx

18 Jun, 2012
It's great isn't it! :))
18 Jun, 2012
Yup! Me too!!!
Yesterday, I was out there, in my dressing gown and slippers, spotted an escaped duck (the only one I know of which is capable of vertical take-off) and ended up chasing it up and down the road!!!
Still, around here it's not that unusual to see people in the supermarket in their slippers...
Happy Shopping at the Garden Centre! x

Thanks bought 3 plants. A 2nd yellow fuschia (to keep the first one company and because it had a rogue orange bud on it). A salvia 'Sensation Rose' full of bees already. and a new one to me, Lychnis - Jenny. Full of whispy pink flowers and looks great with the cosmos. Have put a pic with blog. Jx
18 Jun, 2012
Oooh Lovely!!
That was quick! x
18 Jun, 2012
Don't hang around me! lol Garden centre - in, found plants, bought plants, got plants home and straight in ground. job done. :))
Last year boarders were all colour themed. Bored with that now, just gone for a huge riot of colour. Prob not technically correct, but who cares. Jx

I thought this was the norm Jane, always take a wander round my estate (all 220 sq yards of it) drinking my first cuppa weather permitting. The reason I`ve been so crabby lately is that its raining most mornings and my dressing gown insn`t waterproof.
Like the sound of the new salvia and the lychnis, will go look at your blog.
18 Jun, 2012
Best start to the day stroller, weather permitting. :))
18 Jun, 2012
Me too, slippers and dressing gown, lol. all good stuff, our postman had to have therapy many years ago when Karensusan was still at home. I hope she can remember the incident because I can. lol. (She will kill me for this) lol.
Being a wise old bird though and not wishing to cause him any more painful experiences had a post box installed at the top of the garden drive away from the house. lol. Funnily enough he retired not long after the painful experience. Cannot think why!!!
18 Jun, 2012
Guilty as charged........ Always out in my Jammies....... New plants are lovely :) x
18 Jun, 2012
You bought some nice plants. They look great after planting :o)
Well I shudder to think about me going down the garden in my boxer shorts and tee shirt lol I'd freeze :D
18 Jun, 2012
Big lols Jx
18 Jun, 2012
Obviously many of us are familiar with this scene. First place I go when I get up is out to the back step to sit and contemplate what I've to do. Those plants are looking good there. I do hope yOu find out if you have been nurturing a weed or not. How disappointed are you going to be if it is :(. I know I would be gutted!!
18 Jun, 2012
Tee hee - time will tell. I have now put it in the flower bed behind the terrace wall, it looks okay, so I decided it isn't a weed as I like it there.
Just seen weather forecast for tomorrow, unlikely it will be a dressing gown garden morning :o(
18 Jun, 2012
Wouldn't put my neighbours through such torture..........1 we are overlooked and 2 its usually too d****d cold (would need a jacket and boots most days) but do peruse the 'estate' first thing with a cuppa and get involved in some project or other (anything but housework).........
Glad you got plants ,you are a fast worker .....and a weed is just a misplaced plant after all;)))
18 Jun, 2012
Now this has made me really Lol! I took some of the photos in my blog this morning dressed in nightie and slippers (wet legs by the time I had finished and couldn't sit down because of the puddled chairs) but coffee outside always tastes better. I often end up getting dressed mid-morning because I start gardening in slippers and forget what I'm wearing xx
18 Jun, 2012
Only because you asked, so don't say TMI later ;)
Usually sleep in a T-Shirt and undies. Always go out in the a.m wearing that to have my 1st coffee. Figure if the neighbours don't like it, tough! Don't look over or through the fence! :)))
18 Jun, 2012
My neighbours can't see me anymore.....I love trees and hedges!
18 Jun, 2012
Lol. I just had to wash my flip flops, because I forgot I was wearing them and went to plant some french beans. Needless to say, I stood in something a bit unsavoury and whilst sat at the computer catching up with GYO, kept getting a whiff of something quite eye watering. Think feet need a bit of a scrub too - or a splash in the sheep dip jaccuzzi. Jx
18 Jun, 2012
Bigger lol, I don't sleep in any thing, so not a good idea to go straight out from bed. :o)
18 Jun, 2012
Lol xx
18 Jun, 2012
Lol @jane!!! :)
18 Jun, 2012
Lovely pictures Jane - and I often have an early stroll around garden - but not in pink gown lol but a cup of tea or a latte - those leylandiis are enourmous - my neighbour next door but one had them chopped and now spends each day cutting and burning them - 3 40 ft trees to do!! Your garden is so tidy and pretty
19 Jun, 2012
I dont either Jane but i have jammies or dressing gown at the ready lol. If its raining i go out in my dressing gown with hood up and wellies hahaha! Well gotta feed the birds and fish!
19 Jun, 2012
It was funny the other morning. About 2 weeks ago, we were woken at 2am with the dog barking like mad. We both lept out of bed and peered through the bedroom window, just to see a car disappearing off the yard. Our farm yard is quite away from the road, down a bumpy track, so it wasn't any one lost. Without futher ado, Mick ran downstairs, lept into his truck and gave chase. They had disappeared. As he came back into the bedroom, I said 'Mick, you didn't go out like that did you' he hadn't got a stitch on. Probably a good job he didn't find them, he would likely have been arrested for indecent exposure. He did mention the incident to the police (well not the lack of clothes part) as farms are targeted on a regular basis and sure enough, 3 days later several of the surrounding farms had been burgled. mainly quad bikes, which we don't have. But I would have loved to have seen the burglars faces, if Mick had caught up with them.lol
Thanks Paul, the garden doesn't feel neat. With all this rain, it feels like a battle with nature, to keep grass and weeds at bay. There are parts, where she is succeeding too. jx
19 Jun, 2012
yes, many a time jane and slippers that i ruin from digging something out when i should be wearing wellies!!!
19 Jun, 2012
lol Jane! that would have been funny if he had caught them! heheh..glad you wernt burgled tho! :(
19 Jun, 2012
LOL Jane, that is me to a T!! It happens all the time...sometimes it's about 11am before I get around to getting dressed. The neighbours must think I am absolutely barmy...they'd be right of course! :D Thank you for the kind mention! x

3 Jul, 2012
Haven't done it yet. I got on last year, just as I was carted off to hospital with my asthma. After 10 days in there, they'd done it without me. Honestly, I got my contract and everything. Bl***y timing eh. Anyway, I thought no more about it, till I got a phone call last month, completely out of the blue. Apparently, they still want to use me, just have to wait till they come back into my area. Don't worry. you will all know about it, if it ever happens. lol Jx
3 Jul, 2012
Oh Karen, sorry forgot to add welcome back and how bl***y annoying re the cars. Jxx

3 Jul, 2012
well thats true.
i would be scared of what that dave lamb would say!!!
3 Jul, 2012
Do you know, I've never seen the one I should have been on. It's a bit annoying as I've seen some of them half a dozen times.
I wanted a medieval theme initially. I would have liked a small pavillion in the top field. Mick would have had to take us up in the medieval 4x4, and there would be red carpets, banners fluttering in the breeze, rich tapestries etc, etc. however as Mick pointed out, fine dining in a tent, can be a bit tricky. Not least, getting all the food there. I could have asked them to pick a lamb, and got a serf type person to butcher it. Possibly not conducive to winning the £1000. Anyway, the production team, veetoed that. Aparently, the sound man can't cope withthe rain on canvass - makes a dreadful noise! That also put paid to the bedouin tent theme. I still have to come up with one for the one I'm supposed to be on. Ummmmm wonder if I can work the spa element in? Dinner is served........................ in the septic tank. lol :-)
3 Jul, 2012
and what would that do to the camera, never mind the sound man!!!!
3 Jul, 2012
Oh don't even go there Sticki :-)
3 Jul, 2012
dont worry i wont!!!
but im thinking now
you could serve a [sheep] dip
3 Jul, 2012
with crudites of course.lol
3 Jul, 2012
naturally!!!!
if your farmhouse is old could you theme it to that age??
3 Jul, 2012
Lol........ Just been catching back up on this!!!!! A soon to be celeb in our ranks!!!!! That's a shame you were unwell last year, glad you are ok and hope you get "the call'soon :) my hubby has been in you've been framed :) ....and does extra work a lot. ......
Back to orig topic, I was out last night gardening in a other extreme of fashion...... Tailored blouse, twin set cardigan, pencil skirt and rubber riding boots (my wellies) .... Went out to slug hunt and weed a wee bit, ended up with the shears and secateurs attacking triffid hedge, very odd looks from neighbours and passers by!!
3 Jul, 2012
What a sight Mag, sort of a cross between Miss jean Brodie and the Wurzels! :-) Jx
