This Weekend

This weekend gone – we went to the Malvern Spring Flower Show – fantastic as always – and I managed to fill my trolley of course! – but Saturday was very windy and wet at times. We spent the weekend away – visiting Slimbridge which I love and visiting friends – yes I bought quite a few bits and pieces – spoilt for choice as always.

Anemone Magallanica

A new Primula sieboldii called Carefree a deep pink

Gentian Verna – a bit of a challenge this one – I have bought gentians before but have had little success

Two years ago I bought some seed from a stall in the marquee at Malvern – they were white stock seeds – the grower had a plant on show which was quite tall and just coming into flower – well I came home – set the seeds and two years later it has flowered – beautifully scented – the plants grow huge – two I managed to overwinter in the greenhouse and several plants were put in a sheltered spot – the picture is the one that was outside – in a pot – I found the name of it at Malvern this year Matthiola incanna alba – it is a treasure.

Favourites out in the garden at the moment

Primula Sieboldii – a delicate lavender colour

and Sieboldii Alba

Viola Speckles ( I think!!)

and in the green house a surprise appearance from a creamy white Amaryllis – from Xmas 2012 – reflowering -

Finally a quick shot of new plant pot on the block – planted up with sedums a Lewisa and a campanula

The revamp is moving on slowly and things are beginning to take shape meanwhile the garden flowers on bravely – enjoy your week – bye for now – Jane

Some nice buys at Malvern ,Have not found G .Verna much of a problem although they are not that long lived ,it's the Autumn Gentians I find more difficult.

It's always nice to get new plants for the garden isn't it. All looking great there and your new pit is very fetching.

Great blog Jane. I love your white Matthiola! You are lucky being able to get to Malvern. We don't have many plant Fayres up here. We depend on open gardens and plant societies to find little gems, but it's always worth the effort isn't it!
