Home and Away

Hello – today we have braved the elements and taken a walk down the frozen fields – we being myself and the two dogs – when we came back I took a walk around the garden to see what was occurring!! anyway things have moved on – the snowdrops are looking a lot stronger
and also a primula vulgaris is starting to flower to the side of the snowdrop drift
Buds are showing on a favourite of mine the Iris Reticulata
and also a small primula is starting to flower I am hoping that it is Gold Lace but I am not sure and I think something has nibbled the petals – could be a sparrow – we are lucky this winter we have sparrows in the garden again
Most of the succulents seem to look ok – I especially like this one – it has cerise daisy like flowers – I am not sure of its name?
Another Hellebore has come into bloom it is a white double – so delicate but even so – strong enough to withstand the frost
I really must get to work in the greenhouse – and give it a tidy up – ready for all that seed setting – can’t wait – have a good week !

Thanks Jane - lovely to see the plants you have in flower. I've just had a walk round our patch and the snowdrops are fine, but only 2 inches of daffodil leaves above ground and no Hellebores yet :(
However, the ground is finally thawing, and the vents in the greenhouse have opened for the first time this year.
Enjoy your week too!

It's great when yo start to see progress! I have been looking almost every day to see if any of the daffodils are peeping above the soil...they are just starting to. If we could get a warmer spell, then things would really get going. my snowdrops seem to have been stuck for at least two weeks now. We had awful winds over the weekend, and it was tough sleeping at night. But luckily no real damage. The ground is frozen though, so the only gardening I've been getting is in the greenhouse. Still, at least it is now February! :)
