Found this spider on one of the Crinum powellii’s leaves – legs & leaves are quite similar I think.

This is one of the funnel web spiders and you have taken a picture of it having its lunch. If you look closely it is sucking up into its little mouth a well macerated prey soaked in a copious quantity of digestive fluid.

oooooh Loosestrife - I'm getting the heebie jeebies. Hywel - I'm a whimp when I see a spider, but hadn't seen this one before. Today (2 days later) I saw that there are lots of little ones in its web. I thought it was a common hunting spider (Pisaura mirabilis).

I'm that much of a wimp, there's no way I'd hang around to take its picture, lol........

So that must have been an egg sac that she was holding instead of its "sucking up into its little mouth a well macerated prey soaked in a copious quantity of digested fluid."
