Sunshine in the garden

I think that one of the things that has helped me get through the loss of my dear friend Derek’s passing, are the plants he bequethed to me. Somehow, I still feel that he is with me, every time I venture out into the garden.
Today, I just had to sit and stare for ages at his wonderful Fremontodendron californicum. A bit battered since the move, but it seems to have outshone everything in the garden; something my wife seems to do with ease, but she is certainly being challenged by this beauty.
I’ll have to ask Derek’s Mum to pop round for a cuppa, so that it will give her some cheer. Maybe I’ll make some strawberry jam scones and lace it with some HOT peppers. She will laugh her head off when her tongue goes numb!!!
Oh, Derek’s tricks – I do miss them.

I am so sad for your loss but am glad that the plants you "inherited" remind you of him. It's a good idea to get his Mum round to see the lovely plant that was his and that is now flowering in your garden.

Yes, it will always bring him back to you won't it, the sight of his plants. Lovely fremontodendron....glad it survived the move!

Thanks folks - at the moment, because it faces west, the blazing sunset is illuminating it like 40 odd bright lights - it's magical.
Maybe Derek's sparkling wit shines on.

Strawberry scones laced with peppers, your friend sounds like he was a real joker. What a nice way to remind you of him by leaving you his plants to look after.. :-)

Oh, you've all cheered me up so much. Sometimes I feel really sad that I lost Derek; he was so much part of my life, and his always unexpected practical jokes were a constant pick-me-up, especially on gloomy days.
I must admit though, that he swore by his well rotted "doo-doo", and his Fremontodendron and other plants have had a steady supply.
There are times I think I could do with a spoonful or two myself, but I don't think I would be flowering for very long!!! :)
