Open spaces are essential to any town, more the merrier. Just as silence is essential to punctuate the noise of modern life, so should our urban areas be punctuated with green spaces.

i could not agree more Heron, getting less & less "green spaces "these days..

It looks a really nice park to visit, many of the local open spaces that I remember as a child are now housing estates or shops. :o(

hi Lab,its a shame isnt it we used to have a traffic park near us when my children were small..it had mini working traffic lights and zebra crossings it was a mini town centre roadway and all the kids used to take their bikes it was great ,my kids loved it ..plus it taught them road sense...long gone now though..:o(

Gosh what a lot of steps ! I'd be out of puff climbing those lol :o)) Nice grounds though.

It must be a welcome sight for people in Salford as it is a very built up area. It's a shame we have to exercise caution going to parks on our own....and those stairs would be a challenge for my poor legs too! You were kind to take the photos for Carole. :)

Hi Hywel, they are nice grounds ,i am pleased to say i got up and down the steps ok.. i wouldnt like to do it too often
though lol :o)
J,you are right about it being very built up and i think i would be cautious in any park on my own if there were not many people about ..i was passing the park anyway on the bus to a photo shop course i am doing, i just got off one stop before i had to...:o)

Great blog, Joanella. Like Hywel & Whistonlass I would have trouble going up those steps! Where I live it is all as flat as your proverbial pancake! plus I live in a ground floor flat, so no steps to climb! I can go for a whole month without having to go up & down stairs - even longer if I really wanted to & were prepared to make a slight deviation when going to the the doctor's surgery or the pharmacy, both occupy the same building.

Nice to see the park anyway as well as the views from top & bottom!

cheers Balcony, wow a month without going up & down stairs..i am always using them when i can.. i think i am doing my legs some good ..then my back starts lol..

We have a split staircase (a landing half-way up) as we live above our former newsagent's shop. I manage the stairs but only one at a time. I look at it this way....I can get up and down and there are many who cannot so it's not the end of the world, I suppose.

Balcony....living on one level must be quite an advantage although as Joanella says the stairs are good for her health.

We do get side-tracked on some topics here on GOY...I think I could be partly responsible...lol

ha ha J, we sure do ..as you say you can manage the stairs so thats a blessing..my mum 83 has started having difficulty with them she is ok coming down slowly but my dad goes behind her when going up ..ah what a life.. oh to be 18 again..

My mum at 80 had little problems with the stairs in her house. My brother, who lived at home with her & was her carer till she died, had a stairlift put in but, to the best of my knowledge, she hardly used it. I felt dizzy coming down the stairs, I found them ever so steep! I hadn't used stairs like those in over 20 years!

my mum has refused a stairlift Balcony, even though it would be good for her and be a lot safer..fancy your mum not using hers much..i think the old uns are too stubborn for their own good some times ..
