Sweet pea seeds grown for the UK for Unwins

I have just watched a TV documentary on how the sweet pea industry started here in Gisborne- Patricia Unwin came out as a young girl (about 60 years ago) from the UK and sent her father back some seeds and he was amazed at the quality of them so she started growing them here. Her daughter has now taken over the business and there are 4 different growers now growing them for export. They all work together to help harvest them even tho they are in competition with each other. An old school friend of mine is involved and has acres and acres of them – such a pretty sight but never picked for the flower. Every seed is inspected by hand…a really labour intensive job. Another friend of ours puts up the fences every year. I’ll have to try and get some photos of them to show.
