Armchair Gardening

Am so glad I discovered this great website by accident. When my body has had enough of gardening but my brain hasn’t then I can come on here and be like a child in a sweetie shop. So many things to see and do, there is almost no time for real gardening! Many thanks for being so welcoming, how lovely it is to talk gardening with like-minded people. My husband’s interest is limited although he does like to sit in it and comes in useful from time to time when a bit of muscle is required. Mind you, it comes at a price, namely his size 13 feet which don’t seem to be connected to his brain and go their own way. The plants and I cringe but I daren’t complain!
After a slow start, I am becoming less afraid of technology and yesterday managed to post some photos which has spurred me on to do my first blog. Unfortunately, having just got to grips with all this my camera has just given up the ghost so I can’t post any up to date photos until it’s sorted (either in the bin or mended!) The garden is not looking very photogenic at present anyway and I am really late with everything due to a bit of a revamp which just got bigger and bigger. I now have lovely new brick split level raised beds where before there was a rather gloomy damp border where all the plants just sat and sulked. I’ve planted it with annuals for now and will think about some more permanent plants in the autumn when there is less to do. Such a pity I can’t take a photo as I’m so pleased with it.
As a result of all this, I have a lot of homeless plants in pots so it’s ‘all change places’ around the garden. It’s a bit like that in my garden at the best of times, well that’s gardening isn’t it? Things don’t always turn out how you plan or nature has other ideas and also plant labels sometimes tell lies!

Maybe it's the old muti-tasking thing that men apparently can't do that makes their feet uncontrollable. Any comments from men on that? Yes am off to the GC today Linclass for some browsing even though it's raining.

Well this morning I made breakfast for Beryl, fed Blodyn, Got all the stuff ready for my mother's carers, did 2 lots of washing and pegged them out and watered all my fuchsias, had my own breakfast, made a hot water bottle for my mother, brought 8 geraniums from the shed into the cold frame, and started to clear out the shed where I have my pottery wheel. And that was all before 9.30. I don't think I did them all at the same time but it was quite good going I think. I haven't stopped since then either - well not until now when I'm having a look at GoY. But I can't stay long. The carers are coming again soon, and I want to finish sorting the shed out before tonight, but I have to make tea and supper aswell, and probably go for a walk with Blodyn to keep her happy :o) Oh yes - and I've been in to Ammanford to the computer shop to talk to the man about a laptop. Sorry I forgot about that. It is now 3.03 pm by my computer. But I don't suppose it's ' multi tasking' I don't really know how that is possible.

Point taken Hywel but I did only say 'apparently'! Sounds like you've been extremely busy and deserve a sit down. I've been to the garden centre today for the second time this week and very hard work it was too trying to decide what to take out of my trolley when I wasn't going to buy anything anyway (as if). I was dragged along to accompany someone on both occasions. Such a chore but someone's got to do it. So no multi tasking at all for me today and I'm worn out!
I had four children in 5 years (last one was twins) so got very good at multi tasking but that was a very long time ago and I've given it up now.
The camera has gone off for repair, found out on the Internet that it is a known fault on these and will be repaired free of charge. To think I nearly binned it, great thing the Internet!

I'm glad you found out about your camera. It would have been a shame to throw it away.

Hi Lily2, My husband can multi task...he can sit in the garden with me in the evening and read airplane magazines at the same time. :-) He is a big help though, size 11 shoes, but he stays on the path. Lifts and even digs sometimes and doesn't complain when I go crazy at the garden store. What a guy!
Looking forward to you getting your camera back.

Sounds like you have the perect husband Weeds. Mine thinks he can watch TV and listen to me at the same time - he can't! But he can watch TV and eat at the same time. He's been a great help in the garden lately though, getting it back to rights after a partial revamp, with only minimal damage from the size 13's so I think I'll keep him!

Yeah, me too. Looking forward to pictures of your revamped garden.

I like the sound of your new raised beds and yes, changes always happen out there don't they?
I think i move things around too much sometimes as there can be casualties!
One of my recent casualties was a Gaura, i shifted it about 3 times and to let me know i was wrong in doing it .... it died :(
Lesson learned, don't do it so much now !
