Yes, they mimic, especially the large species, carrion meat, to attract flies, which acts as the pollinator.

Hi Sandra, yes Stapelia the genus and lots of species, 35 to be more correct, and this is just the Genus Stapelia, there are another legion of genus, like Orbea, Huernia, Tridentea, Stapeliopsis, Duvalia, Hoodia and so on.
So, lots of variations in flowers. I have around 25 now, and will 'strive' to get them to flower so that I can add more. Fascinating Family! Hope it answers a bit of your question...LOL!
