A really enjoyable hour long programme :-)

I was amazed at the garden in Tresco, this is somewhere i’d love to go so this part of the programme with Carol there was great to see, i was as excited as she was !!!
I’m wondering if a Protea would work here ….. !

Interesting seeing how Toby sowed his wildflowers, the mix and the sand …

Very interesting was Joes ‘soil wall’, i’d not heard of this before and was intrigued, would like to see how it ages and how they mesh/merge it in with the rest of the garden.

Yes, another episode i’ve enjoyed !

I have this to look forward to tonight. I will be interested to see the bit about wild flowers. I have a few packs to sew under my apple trees. There were people running about in a field last night again, which seems to be more important than Gardening :o((

Just think how many gardening programmes there might be on television if there were less football and cookery TV shows.. Lol.

I agree Louise, Gardeners' World is improving :o)

Ditto from me ... definitely changed to a better format. : o )

Yes I agree, it was interesting and does seem to be improving, although I can't take to Alys.
I did like the idea of Toby's to sow seeds of airy looking flowers which look like wild ones, whilst not being wild in fact. As for the soil wall, I too wonder how it will last, but I don't really like the look of it. I wonder whether he will clothe it with something.

Yes really enjoyed last night hour long or should i say short show, because it just went so fast. :o)))

3 Apr, 2010

i thought it was only on for 1/2 hour so when i watched it later after recording it i was pleased it was longer...... enjoyed it all...........

Ialso enjoyed it very much.

Funny, I also find Alys quite tricky to like and not sure why....however; the programme is much better for me and I am so glad that I am able to enjoy it again. I loved Tresco and would also love to visit there. The mud walls too....fascinating. The back gardens are great and I particularly loved seeing Toby expounding on the joy of Cornus Kousa...so much so that I went out and bought one today! tee hee! I also learned how to water my orchids properly which was good since I've been doing it all wrong! Definitely an improvement. I couldn't stand it last year!

Well done Louise for getting through an episode. I used to like it, too many years ago to admit to, when they would visit someone's garden for a whole programme. I still remember the episode with Eric Watson's marvellous garden and alpine house. Alys is not just tricky to like, she's just a complete drip. The programme is made up of 2 minute slots which are wholly unsatisfying, cameramen don't seem to have a clue how to show plants at their best but are more preoccupied by demonstrating how clever they are. Is this the only gardening programme on around the regions? Sorry to take up your log space witha rant Louise. ( I do like Carol Klein though :-))

We really enjoyed this one, especially as we spent our honeymoon on the Isle of Tresco, bought back many happy memories, it was a magical place even then, would love to go back one day.......must did out the photos.

I've got Tresco earmarked for a visit too :).
Only downside (yawn) Alice and Dan Pearson

4 Apr, 2010

Now you've mentioned him Grindle i agree, Dan Pearson just doesn't 'do it for me', he's so dreary, ..... he's aged himself 10 years with that beard too.
I agree that Alys is drippy aswell !
Aren't we cruel :-(

4 Apr, 2010

LOL no just honest :) Dan Pearson is better than sleeping pills IMO

4 Apr, 2010

LOl, LOL, wonder if he's available without a prescription ? ;-)

Enjoyed the Tresco piece very much - remember seeing the Agave Americana on a television programme in the mid 80's not long after Mike Nelhams took over - it's quadrupled in size since then, lol.
As for the rest of it - Yawn!!!!!!!!! and the Prima Donna, Dan Pearson - I had to laugh at the memory of him when he last exhibited at Chelsea and DIDN'T get a gold. ' Go away, don't speak to me' to the film crew!
I had to run a video of Geoff Hamilton afterwards to reinstate my good humour - felt much better then, lol.

Ha ha ha! I can just imagine Dan Pearson saying that! I think it's Carol that saves it for me. If she wasn't on I don't think I'd watch it. I'd love to meet her, she's so passionate about plants, bit like me really! That agave was fabulous wasn't it! They should get Sarah Raven back too, I liked her and her floristry, but for me, it's Alan that is really missing. I guess I'm JUST a bit too young to hold Geoff dear, but I wish Alan would get off the chat sofa and back in the garden!

4 Apr, 2010

Can't stand Sarah Raven - her husband doesn't seem to keen either, lol. I think there is something from Alan in the pipeline, - goodie!

lol!! This blog is very funny! :)))

Hi All
can i have another say on Gardeners World.
The BBC spend most of there time showing repeats of programs should we get together a petition to have Alans Gardeners.World repeated during the winter months and deduct the cost from the present waste of space contributers they have now

5 Apr, 2010

What a grand idea! I'd sign it (with twenty aliases, lol)

5 Apr, 2010

I'd sign too !

5 Apr, 2010

Absolutely!!

5 Apr, 2010

I haven't seen Gardeners World this week yet, but after your comments on the visit to Tresco & it being an hour long I will have to watch it on the BBC iPlayer tomorrow!

5 Apr, 2010

Put me down for several signatures too Brian. How's about Geoff Smith's World of Flowers too. There was another man who knew his stuff. But please please not Sarah Raven. I see from the latest Radio Times that Alysssss has been given her own programme on vegetables! How appropriate!!

5 Apr, 2010

lol!! Ok, I give up on the Sarah Raven idea, she is clearly not popular! There's too much for me on vegetables etc. these days. Not that I don't enjoy growing vegetables, but they don't make for interesting t.v. do they? Alys included!! ;))

6 Apr, 2010

here here KS, but it's like everything these days, they don't give a well rounded viewing of anything, show an interest in cooking or houses or veg and they completely swamp tv with them :((((((((((((

6 Apr, 2010

I was able to see the programme today at last! The trip to Tresco with Carol was very enjoyable & makes you wish you lived there!!!

Joe's earth wall was very interesting - as an experiment! I don't think too many people will be emulating him, too much like hard work for most people!

About the programmes you all mention above, this morning I found a page about forthcoming gardening programmes on BBC 2. I wrote about them here:

Whoo hoo! I'm excited about Alan and Monty's progs!! Will keep an eye on the schedule for these! Thanks Balcony!!

7 Apr, 2010

I like the look of Alan's series - I love seeing other people's gardens and seeing 'secret' ones is always special.
