spring at last

Woke up very early this morning,. weather was good (wasn’t snowing lol) so decided to get planting and tidying the raised beds , first job check the strawberrys I planted under cloches in a raised bed last week.
Took the cloches off to water and check them , they are planted through black plastic ,this will keep weeds down and will stop the strawberries rotting when they form, it may heat up the soil a bit for strawberries, but I am pretty sure it will be fine up here in Scotland.

The timber is placed there to hold the black plastic in place, there are also drainage holes in the black plastic down in the hollow where the wooden baton sits.
I then had a look at the potato tents and a good number of the plants are all ready through .
all in all a good day , carrots , turnip , spring onions , broccoli and brussel sprouts all planted up.
The orange plastic fence type thingy in the background of the last photo, it’s round the turnip seeds I planted , this stops cats using the raised beds, everything else has cloches over them and they have the same effect , fence and cloches will all be removed once plants get up a bit .

It's nice to be able to get on with things. I'm going to try potatoes in pots this year.
