I’m stir crazy, I need COLOUR! The garden isn’t providing it yet, so I turn to my paints.

Tulips can always be relied on for a cheerful flower arrangement, but I went a bit too far with my bright colours in this one! Primary Tulips, watercolours on paper, 10″×14″

Once that was out of my system I had another go, altogether more spring-like this time! Tulip Rainbow #2, watercolours on paper, 14″×10″

Now a blast of the summer we all hope to see. Sunburst #2, watercolours on paper, 14″×10″

Did you think I’d got the bright colours out of my system? Not a chance! Pansies, painted with a new set of acrylic inks which were a birthday gift from my children :o) Pansy Party, Acrylic inks on paper, 10″×10″

I hope they cheer you up as much as they do me!

what a talent, i am so envious of your skills madmum.

27 Feb, 2009

I love them! You must be very proud of them. :-)

Wow! What fantastic paintings, I'm well "green"! Will you be hanging these up in your home, or do you sell your paintings?

wowww

Thanks so much!

Spritzhenry, I am proud that I have come so far - my early attempts were very poor, but hard work pays off :)

Seaburngirl and Craftnutter, painting is an expensive hobby, I have to sell some to keep me in paint! It also helps with the other obsession - the garden! Some I keep but I'm terrible at actually framing and hanging my own work.

Hi Madmum! Can you tell me how I can buy any of your paintings? I absolutely adore the style and I have only 2 paintings hanging on my walls in my house. Your pictures are sooooo cheerful and modern. Also, my dd is called Poppy and I've always wanted to get an original painting of a poppy/some poppies. Thanks! Lindsey :-)

hello addicted to colour.im blaming sid for putting me on to you lol. im an artist myself and have done anything from tattoos to large sculpture but ive never done any painting.bye the way when you paint or draw its your interperatation of what you see not a coppy.i love your sunflower and the others but thats my fave.if you look at my apes ive drawn on my web site www.noseypotter.com youl see there a little colourfull but most people including me like them.i was doing a skulpture at a garen place that sells tropical plants ,well worth a look if your ever near norwich bye the way.anyway i noticed a rusty old fashioned tractor sitting back ,sunk in the ground and overgrown.i took a picture like i do.anyway one old boy i realy like gave me a lovley paint set.then another mate gave me an easel so i thaught its got to be and the tractor would be better painted.i know from what art ive done that art overlaps ie im sure my other types of art are going to help me with this .ive also watched the odd bit of water colour but realy i know nothing which is hopefully wear you come in if you dont mind.im more than happy to answer any of your questions if i can.id realy appreciate it.any love your colourfull art take care bye for now

Lindsey thank you! I've sent you a pm :)

Hi Leigh! Wow, I just spent an age looking through your photos and your website - you have amazing talent! Are you hoping to learn watercolours? It's a challenging medium but with hard work and practise anyone can do it. I can point you to some great online lessons, and of course if you have specific questions I would be happy to answer! If you're interesting in acrylics or oils I'm afraid I know as much as you - I just bought my first ever acrylics and I'm actually scared to try them! I do know where to learn though, I'll send you some links by pm once I know exactly what you're interested in :)

well as it goes madmum im a scruffy git and i couldnt do oils as more would end up on me realy.i have some gouache excuse my spelling and acrylics to.i was thinking of doing it mainly in water colour and kind of pull the tracter out with a bit of gouache or acrylics but im just guessing here.glad you like my site.dont you sell your work ? have you got a web site ? that sunflower though it realy is brilliant realy youve truley captured not just the sunflower but the fact that its summer.i love the way your water colours look almost like ink thats run.that is a complement i like your style.it would look great on a wall about 48" x 48" love it and thank you

Leigh I know what you mean - I make a mess with watercolours so oils would be a disaster!

You're thinking about mixed media, which I think would suit you perfectly and mean you could enjoy painting without worrying about keeping the white of the paper for highlights (the main feature of watercolours). It's fine to add acrylic on top of watercolour, but you can't do the opposite because wc won't stick to acrylic.

The absolute best place to learn about almost anything art related is http://wetcanvas.com/forums/index.php - there are forums for just about every medium you can think of, including sculpture (they'd love to see your work!) with tutorials and information, all for free. Join the site and there's a reference image library which you can use, again free!

Yes, I sell my work when I can. My website is www.rsharts.co.uk As for a 4ft square watercolour, that would be difficult as paper doesn't come that big and also the cost of framing, not to mention the weight, would be huge! lol That's partly why I'm trying acrylics - I could paint on canvas and not have to worry about framing!

Hope you like wetcanvas!

thats quite spooky i litteraly was looking for concrete sculpture sites and signed into the site you mention believe it or not.cant you get a piece of good quality cartridge paper tape it with masking tape ,wet it et.when its stretched and dried you can use it as water colour paper or so i was lead to believe.i looked at your sight very nice especialy the close up flowers there lovley.ow and i signed your guest book hint hint wink wink lol.again thanx a lot i love learning.

28 Feb, 2009

Leigh I'm not surprised you'd found the site before - do explore it properly, especially the reference image library (through content areas drop down menu at top) - there are lots of photos of elephants which I see you love!

While it's possible to use cartridge paper I wouldn't recommend it for watercolours, it's a little too light weight and isn't sized the way heavy watercolour paper is. The minimum weight of paper I would recommend is 140lb (300gsm) - the biggest sheet easily available in that weight is 30 x 22 inches.

I'll check out what you wrote on my guestbook -thanks Leigh!
