Preparation for Spring.

The weather currently has allowed me to do a number of pre-Spring jobs…….the following photos show the results!…..Firstly,I mulched the roses with Violet farm composted manure(Swear by it) well, not literally!…..I might have been a little too early in feeding the roses,we will see……as the temperature was favourable,I gave the grass its first cut……quite a lot of moss which will have to be dealt with later…..next time I will need to scarify…one of the jobs I don’t like doing.

Sprinkled the slow release fertiliser around the perrenials.Made supports for the peonies and planted the lilies.A good day’s work……Such a good feeling.

Yesterday Decided to pressure wash and stain the fencing around the pool which had turned unattractively green!.

Tomorrow will be preparation for the dahlia tubers….last year I soaked them for a couple of hours before planting…very pleased with the blooms we had.

One of the photos shows the Hamamelis intermedia ‘jelena’……beautiful copper coloured flowers.Such a slow grower……has been here for about 10 years.

Well, that’s just about all for now….I’m sure you are all taking advantage of this mild weather even though it’s still only February.Happy gardening to all of you!

I’ve been on a train all day again...but your garden looks lovely, and I’m sure the fertilizer will be fine. :)

You have been busy in your garden, and it shows, it is looking so good, pristine!! in fact ....you don't seem to have any messy areas like ours, makes ours look so untidy!
We have fed the roses with farmyard manure, Oh raked the lawn and gave it its first feed, ( animal and child friendly) then it had its first cut of the year...... I am giving the borders a mulch of composted bark, and that's us !!

You have been busy Julia and I too think fertilising now is fine. You have a beautiful garden. I am slowly landscaping this new one , but its hard going as each time I lift some turf , there is clay underneath. But I just do a bit each day and then change to another gardening job , so that I don't get fed up with lifting turf.

Wow. I'm quite envious lol but if I will get a puppy. Everything is going in his mouth so I can't take my eyes off him so in this lovely weather, no gardening for me. Your garden look great and ready for the spring.

Your hard work is showing in your photos, all looks good! Yesterday I mowed and edged the grass, disappointed to see much moss, had a frost on it overnight so may have cut too early.
Temps up to 16 degrees today, saw many folk sitting on the beach, crazy for the end of February. Hailstones and freezing temps this time last year!

I'm itching to plant two Roses that are in the cold greenhouse now ... would be cross if they were hit by a sudden freeze though!

Shirley we planted five new roses, just after Christmas, some bare rooted some potted, and they have sailed through the frosts!

Great news Dotty ... I planted both the new Roses today as the sun was shining again ... :o)

It certainly is ... today's task is raking moss out of the lawn ... then some more planting.

Not in this house ... walk-in shower only! I only ever occasionally long for a soak in a bath ... :o)
