Hopefully the photos from yesterday’s visit will attach.Roath Park goes back many years in our family when the boys were so small…in those days picnics were very popular alongside 99 ice creams to finish off.!
There is a beautiful, very large lake and paddling pool and various climbing activities.
A lighthouse stands at the top of the lake and rose garden. It was built in 1915 containing a scale model of the Terra Nova ship commemorating Captain Scott’s Ill fated expedition to Antarctica in 1910.
Alongside the lake is a floral arrangement in the shape of a boat …photo below.
The photo depicts the tribute from the Cardiff Hospice charity to all the patients past and present.
Walking around the lake we passed a very large wall of varying Hydrangeas.

How funny Hywel..I'm pleased it brought back some early childhood memories..
The park has changed very little really. There is a bigger cafe and restaurant.

Looks like a good place to visit, Ty. for sharing with us.
Love Hywel’s tale about his visit when small. Surely his poor Mum was not that fat! I bet she was glad to get out of the boat trip though:-).

I enjoyed looking at your blog, but wondered why it hadn't come up on my page and found it through "garden blogs".
I am wondering now if my photos hadn't come up on your page either!
At least you were able to do a blog with pictures and wish I had tried it now instead of putting so many photos on!

I meant to add Julia that the lake reminds me of the lake in Diss in Suffolk.

My son in law works for the River Waveney Trust and helps the volunteers at the mere in Diss. They live 3 miles away and what I find weird is it has a Suffolk postcode [Ipswich] but is in Norfolk. The Waveney is the boundary so Dan nips over the county lines several times every day. I agree photo of the lake does look like mere.

That's a nice place to visit, Interesting to see the flower bed.
Many years ago when I was little my mother had a cousin who went to live in Cardiff and I remember going to visit her - Roath park was near where she lived.
We went on a boat on the lake but I didn't want my mother to come because I thought she was fat and would make the boat sink ! :D (I was about 10 yrs old at the time)
My mother laughed and was glad of an excuse not to come on the boat because she didn't like them anyway ...
Roath park always makes me think of that :D
