El Puerto restaurant, Penarth.

El Puerto overlooks the Cardiff bay..it was the original Custom House which was erected in 1865 to cater for Penarth’s flourishing shipping trade. In June 2000 the Martinez family purchased it.It was in serious need of love and attention. With extensive refurbishment and a touch of European flare the Custom House was revived. Situated a stone’s throw from the Sennydd…the Welsh Government building.
It has since become an established restaurant serving the finest locally sourced seasonal ingredients cooked and finished in the Galician style.
We only go on birthdays and special occasions one of which was yesterday for my birthday.A real treat. It was a sunny, bright day ,the journey down only 40 minutes.Restaurant has a very relaxed atmosphere.
The following photos show the architectural design on the outside…also the planters and garden which greet you as you arrive. Wish my planters looked a quarter as good as these.Wasn’t so keen on the sprayed Erica’s though.

Happy belated birthday Julia! It does look to be a great place to visit and not too far for you to travel too. I love their bright tubs and pots but not keen on the coloured Ericas..
