Veggies are growing - along with the weeds

Over the weekend we weeded and hoed both the moon bed and the control bed. Right now it is difficult to know whether the veggies in the moon bed are doing better than those in the control bed…
and we go away for two weeks on 6 June so will have to leave a gardener friend with some clear instructions on what to do and what not to do!
The veggies growing in the control bed, which is actually in our neighbours garden!
And the moon bed – tiny but at least this way it is in our own garden and we can keep a proper check on
the sacks with the tatties being grown by the moon are now full of soil and now we simply have to wait – and water regularly…
By the time we get back from Austria we may be able to start harvesting the first earlies. I don’t feel this is really a fair trial as the control tatties are in the ground and being regularly ridged up so we will see.
Additionally and not part of the trial we have other veggies planted in containers which are sitting in the field at the end of the garden we are using polystyrene salmon boxes (left sitting long enough that they no longer smelt) with holes in the bottom and two plastic fish boxes. We’ve planted a container each of carrots, peas, spinach beet and one of the brassicas (I can remember which right now and it is raining hard!)
For those new to GoY Bulbaholic and I are trialing growing vegetables following the moon’s cycle. This means planting etc on specific days depending on whether the resultant crops is roots, fruits, flowers or leaves; for example this last weekend was ‘roots’. So we have a ‘moon bed’ and a ‘control bed’ everything is done orgaically in both the only difference being that the control veg. are sown etc. on days when they shouldn’t be! The containers not being part of the trail, and the other area of our neighhbours garden we have turned over to veg. get done as and when but all organically.
