Get a load of what decided to visit my backyard this evening:
That explains why the rabbit and mouse population is down.. {chuckle}
I’m not sure what kind of wildcat it is, but it sure likes the yard!
We saw a bobcat walk through the backyard about 2 years ago, but have not seen it since.
Gotta love life in the country! :-)

Whatever sort of cat it is - it loves your grassy backyard. I, like you, live out in the country (we call it 'the bush' here) and while I've seen lots of wallabies, possums, goannas, wild horses, peacocks and peahens, bandicoots, and dingoes go through my backyard - never anything like this. What else do you see?

It DOES look like an Ocelot doesn't it !
They can be as far north as Texas, i've done a little research and they can, amazing !
They're the most beautiful animals, i love them :)
Lucky you to have these near you.

How lucky for you to spot it, was it there for long? We have to make do with birds and squirrels and get really excited about the occasional fox!

Aw that's so wonderful to see a wild animal like that in your yard! Is it really an ocelot? The wildest thing we get is the odd badger or hedgepig. What amazing experiences you guys have!! :0)

All we get are the neighbourhood moggies. as we live next door to a block of flats which only have concrete yards they use my garden as their own personal space. if only it was just a stroll but they like to leave their calling card and scare all the birds away. So where can i get one of those wild cats to scare our domestic ones away? LOL

Looks like my visitor was a very large wild Lynx, which are native to the Central Texas Area. I showed the photo to a local "hunting guide" and he knew what it was instantly!
To give a little perspective on the size of the cat, the Crepe Myrtle behind the cat is about 10ft wide and the mulched circle at the base of the tree is 8 ft wide.

That's a decent sized garden visitor!

That's a large cat! I was thinking along the lines of "lynx". So glad you got to capture it on camera. He/she is a beauty! :-)
