Monardas in the garden.

I love the herby scent of these flowers, the colours are varied, so thought I would show you the different ones I have at the moment. I saw a white one this week, think that might be on the wishlist now.

Pale Pink – this one is the palest in the garden

Dark red one, think this one is named after a Red Indian Tribe, cannot remember it’s name at the moment.

This one is more Crimson than this picture shows – lovely colour, think this one is my favourite at the moment.

This one is called Squaw it can get a flower popping up into the middle of the first flower hence why the name I suppose. It looks like a red indian head-dress.

Darker Pink one

Hope you like them – I love Monardas – Enjoy your gardens.

Thank you louise for looking at the blog, glad you like the palest one. I love it too, but must admit at the moment the crimson one is winning even though there is only one flower open at the moment.

Kfunsters, glad you have added them to the wishlist they are lovely.

Muddy, I like to weed around them because just catching them sends me into raptures. Doesn't take much these days. lol.
They are lovely plants, glad you like them too.

Helen, do you think they might sell out at the g.c. now. So pleased you like them, make sure you like the scent before you buy not everyone's cup of tea, but I love them.

Seaburngirl, it wasn't Soiux nation, but think I can find the label on a pot somewhere. Will have a look later and let you know.

Thank you all for looking at my blog. :o)

Just found the label for the last Pink one, it was not the one I was thinking of the last one is called Mohawk. Think the crimson one is one that someone gave me, I must ask Karen, it might have been one she has sent me down.

You're right, Oliveoil, Monardas are plentiful at the garden centres and as the gardeners 'main' growing season has peaked you can find all sorts of perennials at reduced prices currently - okay, not likely to flower again thsi year but a brilliant way of increasing stock at lower prices !

The last ones i bought were Hartswood Wine and Schneewittchen (white) but that was last summer now !

Good luck Grandmage hope you find some.

Lincslass, I had no idea there were so many, have been trying to find a website which deals with them, not been lucky so far. Will keep trying though, my computer is playing up at the minute. It is so so slow.

I love it when you get a flower right in the middle of the lower flower....mine used to do that! I don't have these now...too big, but I agree the scent is lovely and the bees love them too!

Love them too..just wish they would flower for longer :-o

They like moisture so I would think that my clay soil is good as I know that it retains water better than most other soil types. I used to moan about the clay soil but not any more after all the dry we have had. We have had rain the last couple of days, still could do with some more (when my washing has got dry I hasten to add) as it has not got down too far into the soil yet!

I love them all but as i don't have a border in full sun for longer than 2 or 3 hours they don't seem to do very well in the garden.

20 Jul, 2011

they do like to see the sunshine - Some do better than others, dependent on where they are.
