For Goy Members, if you do have a chance to come to Fiji, I recommend that you visit the Garden of the Sleeping Giant, which is located on the Western Side of the main island of Fiji, a 20mins car ride from Nadi International Airport.
Over the years I have always enjoyed the many visits there, taking visitors and friends alike, who come home to stay, to see for themselves the beautiful variety of tropical plants and orchids that thrive there. Lovely trails and walkways are provided around the entire garden, where everyone has the chance to see the magnificent array of plants that are there to see. You will never regret the experience.
This garden once belonged to and started by Raymond Burr, a famous American Detective Series Actor in the 1960’s/70’s.
Here are some pics that I took some years ago when I last visited the place with my daughter and two nieces.
I leave this to your imagination to see the beauty of the place. Enjoy:-) and welcome to Fiji!!!

This has been a real treat! Didn't know that Ironside had a green side. When do the no-frills flights start? Many Thanks for this!

What a great legacy for Raymond Burr to leave! I well remember him as an actor, but was completely unaware that he had started this garden. Thanks for the beautiful photos. I may never get to see the garden for real, but at least i've seen it 'virtually'.

I remember Raymond Burr acting Perry Mason many years ago on my grandmother's television. I never knew he'd started a garden.
Thanks for telling us this and showing these lovely photos.
Are you among the people in the last pic ?

Hello Panther, thank you for brightening up our chilly day over the other side of the world. It is my dream to visit Fiji and the other islands in the south Pacific but I will have to work for ever to achieve it.

Thank you all, for your comments, yes indeed what a legacy the actor left behind. Maybe someday who knows, some of you may make it down to the islands and discover more for yourselves.
Yes that is me sitting down in the last pic, rather tired after the walk on that day, with my daughter and nieces on the far side.
It is such a joy looking into your beautiful, creative gardens and seeing the colourful flowers and plants that you own, and the sharing of garden knowlege and ideas.
Though our weather and planting environment could be different because of where we are located, our passion for this hobby, pastime and interest in gardening unites us as one.
I am ever so thankful for this site and look forward every day in learning something new from it.
Thank you all again for making it happen.
All have a lovely and safe weekend,
Rgds Panther aka Linda

Oh to be able to look at such things on a damp and miserable morning in England. You have just whisked me away to your island paradise..... ! (Sigh !)
All of these beautiful plants and sun too !!! What more could a girl ask for ?

Thankyou Linda ! :))

Your interesting blog with wonderful pictures and history prompted me to look at the life of Raymond Burr. A fascinating and caring man. Thanks also for that; now I have learned something and discovered a tiny corner of Fiji.
