yeah - thanks Jac - I've been wondering what to do with that bit of wood for ages - it was far too interesting looking to through away so now it is my bit of 'driftwood' - think it lends a certain racey air to the establishment! te he...

So is this the little hole your cat was watching you in Sarah? My my it turned out wonderful, I can just imagine how it will look after the plants have been in a season or two. A job well done me thinks! Hel.xxx.

yes - same hole! Hopefully the plants I've put in will soften the edges of the tank by summer.

Fantastic idea just finished digging a pond 18 ' x 12 on the site of an old outhouse which didnt know was there until I hit brick stone rubble glass etc. wish Id seen this before I started! On a serious note you might want to consider some chicken wire or clematis support wire under a stone and into your pool to allow animals that fall in to clamber out. also could soften edges by growing plants down wire.Good luck ,bonkers.

You read my mind Bonkers, I do put a wire mesh over the water when I'm not out there taking piccies! When the water level is right up to the top, I don't think it will be necessary, but I have lots of hedgehogs and birds, so - yes - definately need to keep the wire in place at the mo!
