When we were renting in our last house, before buying this one, there were a few pots with different plants on the decking. Ali took a shine to this one and popped it in the back of the removal van and I didn't know until I asked her a few weeks ago!! Typical man....
ANyone got any idea what it is? It seems to be flourishing outside the shed door....

Yes. I agree Michaella......this is the young growth....I have a large tree in my garden...as it ages the leaves change into long lanceolate ones....and the bark of the trunk is very papery and sheds. A beautiful tree but has to be kept in check.

Wow...thanks both. Obviously, if you've read my blogs you will know that I am VERY new to all of this but the advice and help of all the kind folk on here is just brilliant.
When you say 'kept in check', I take it you mean cut it back at set times of the year? If so, how often and how to do?
This is all very exciting and now I'm thinking, pop it in the middle of where we hope to gravel to soften that area...
How tall do they grow Michaella, approximately?

approximately...................potentially....................huge.....lol

Umm...yes, we know....now! We did some research earlier and realised that rather than plant it in the garden, we may be better off leaving it in a bigger pot!!
Now I wonder if Koala's get on with squirrels....

It will have to be a really.....BIG....pot to survive more than a few years.....you have been warned....lol

Crikey!
Looks like we'll be returning it to Oz then..lol!
Not sure what to do now. Any suggestions, as I'm not too keen on planting it in the garden if the roots are gonna be big as well?

Well...if you are really keen on it....in a pot....you could cut it back hard each spring....you will get the benefit of the lovely young foliage.....and it might keep it contained......perhaps an expert on trees could come up with a solution.....I don't want to be accused of scaremongering!!...:)))))

I wonder if we let it grow big enough, it will attract Koala bears to the garden?? Lol!
The pot it is in is small so I'm thinking that if I repot my naked lily stems from the square white pot, I could repot the Eucalyptus in there.....
Seems a shame to let it go as it seems to have flourished since it moved here!
Thanks for the advice AA...

You're a star Wagger. Thank you. We would like to keep it but only to about say 10ft or so, so this should be handy. Will take a peek later :0)-

It is a Eucalyptus Tree it will get very very tall. It prefers to be in the ground and quite hardy here. It is an Australian native. I love them and got a few dotting about.
