This is the shrub rose i bought a few weeks ago, this shows the colour at the early stages, just a bit darker than the open bloom.

I agree, Wagger: I can't see the point of planting roses without perfume. Only one of the roses in the yard where I live has scent, of a dozen, (& half those have gone back to wild root stock). Sigh.

A lot of the hybrid roses were bred for colour, form and long lasting cut flowers. In the process of gaining these attributes, the fragrance has been bred out of a lot of roses.
David Austin roses are bred for fragrance as one of the top attributes as well as disease resistance and form.
It all depends on what you are looking for.....!! :o)
