its a momunent to St. Oliver Plunkett, he was born near where this is.
he was hung drawn and quartered in 1681
17 Aug, 2009
Oh dear, what a fate, but good that people liked him enough to remember him in this way.
17 Aug, 2009
aye bit like William Wallace
17 Aug, 2009
Glad to hear he didn't go to waste. Was it only quarters or did the butcher cut smaller portions for those who didn't have enough money for a whole one?
17 Aug, 2009

18 Aug, 2009
lol its a scot word for sandwich - bread Amy
18 Aug, 2009
Amy a Piece is a sandwich in Scotland - Piece and cheese, Piece and Ham or my Scottish fav Piece and Jam. It get a bit tricky though - a slice of toast and butter would be a piece and toast.
18 Aug, 2009

18 Aug, 2009

I'm a Brummie and we always used to ask Mom for 'piece' I always thought everybody said that LOL. We then got asked a piece of what, jam, dripping, condensed milk, oh yummy condensed milk sandwiches. Toto, did you put salt on your dripping sandwiches as well as the jelly, we did!! Could you imagine kids today if we asked them if they would like a jelly dripping sandwich with salt on ROFL - anyway, hung, drawn and quartered he was, but at least he got a memorial stone for his trouble!!!
