Sweetcorn,My Favourite Crops.....I wait all summer for them.

Sweetcorn,My Favourite Crops.....I wait all summer for them.

These are my 5th and 6th cobs this year. The previous 4 were gorgeous and these two are in the pan at this very moment. They are so crisp and sweet when harvested and cooked immediately. Fantastic.

Yes, they went down a treat , Fluff. I love 'em.

We had them yesterday & they cost £2 for 2! Delicious but that's extortionate eh?! I'll have to try growing them next year. ;0(

Yummy ! Much too expensive Fluff...have a go !

23 Aug, 2009

I will...how many cobs do you get on a plant? Space limited!

Yummy Yummy..well done Paul

23 Aug, 2009

Well done Paul will Julie be cooking them for you and do you share them with her.

Yum, they look delicious. I found 4 cobs at tesco in the bargin bin, they were 20pence each! on there last day, but not last legs! What I bargain I got. I'd have fresh like yours any day though!

Haven't grown any this year. In previous summers our cobs never even reached the kitchen and the pan, they were eaten by then!! Great-looking cobs you have (or did, rather) there. :-)

Well done.. these look lovely :o)

Do try growing them Fluff, they really aren't all that difficult. It's not only the cost that's better than the shops but if they are off the plant for long before cooking/eating(as is the case with shop bought cobs) the sugar turns to starch and they don't taste as good.
I've never eaten these raw David but I do with the beans and peas.
Yes Morgana, we all eat them except my youngest son, Lloyd. He's very fussy!

28 Aug, 2009

No not fussy birds of a feather flock to gether so do pig and swine , rats and mice, shall have their choice and so shall I have mine, different taste buds.

28 Aug, 2009

No......... fussy! Doesn't like 'the feel' of peas, sweetcorn, tomatoes etc!

28 Aug, 2009

mine are small fry
should I let them grow a bit more ? :)

28 Aug, 2009

Depends whether they are ripe Tony. If they are and you leave them, theyll lose their sweetness and probably won't grow more anyway! I always puul the leaves back a bit and push my finger nail into a kernel. If they are ready, the liquid is milky rather than watery! Not vey scientific , I know. But thats when i pick them!

would be great on the grill!

29 Aug, 2009

My sons did one on the Bbq, Heatsnsol but we steamed or boiled the others! Will have another 2 today between us!

Nothing better than you own grown sweetcorn. We used to grow it in a block formation at the other garden but haven't enough space in this one. Well done anyway and just ENJOY!!!!!

30 Aug, 2009

Yes, I grow 9 plants in a square of 3 plants x 3plants, but I plant them quiter close so doesn't take too much space.

30 Aug, 2009

Do try just one straight off the plant. It's far sweeter raw (but wash briefly under running water first, of course). Or have they all gone now? :-)

30 Aug, 2009

Yes, one day too late I'm afraid David. I should have read this Sunday!!! I'll have to wait till next year unless there are any left in my veg patch. I suyspect not as the people who's garden it's in have probably already scoffed them while I was away!

oh yeah,...we had them raw last summer while we sat out in the garden. My daughter really enjoyed them, and kept waiting for the next to get ready.

28 Jan, 2010

Yes, I must make a poit of eating one raw this year Preeti. I've only ever had them cooked. I'm sure they're gorgeous raw, just like Peas, Beans and Carrots.
