It's a lovely keepsake Milky....I love old family photos, especially black and white or sepia ones. One day I will find the time to scan them all onto my pc and hopefully preserve them for the next generation (the kids!)

15 Sep, 2009

That's lovely Maureen. I love old photos!

16 Sep, 2009

Thanks all.. Dawn, as far as I can remember, Dad actually came out of the Navy when my Eldest brother Jim was 2, but its only what I was told, me not being born then. He didnt want to come out but got damaged eyes and they didnt want him then, Janey and Morgana...Yes I do look like my Mum, especially now as Im older. Every time a pic is taken of me, which is rare, as the camera is usually in my hands, but when it is I always think Im looking at my Mum.....

16 Sep, 2009

It's nice you now have a copy of this.
I love old photos. I have many many of them. Some are of people I don't know but I keep them.

16 Sep, 2009

I agree Hywel.........I have also got one of our street party for the coronation, which I think was '53 and its got my Nan in it bless.....

16 Sep, 2009

That's nice Maureen.
Yes It was '53. I was only 3 then but I remember going to my mum's friend's house to see it on the tv. I had never seen one before and I wasn't interested.
I remember being told to keep still and look at it but I wanted to go out to play ... lol . I can remember seeing the coach with the queen in it and thinking she was Cinderella.. lol :o)

I collected all the photos from my 2 lots of grandparents' houses and also a great-aunt. Nobody wanted them and they were going to be thrown away.
Now however, everyone wants to see them. I make sure I tell them if it wasn't for me they wouldn't be here for them to see.

16 Sep, 2009

That reminds me of my family Hywel, not wanting things then comming back either wanting copies or saying how did I get those.

16 Sep, 2009

Quite !
Sometimes I tell them I have a photo but I don't show it to them. I like to keep them hanging on ... lol. Well it's their own fault for being so disinterested in the first place.
Maybe it's a bit childish but I like to think of them being jealous of me for having all the photos and they can't see them :o)

16 Sep, 2009

No I would nt say childish, I would say giving them their just deserts, as it really show, what they really thought of them in the first place, like my family, my family did nt want my mothers paintings just the stuff she had bought, thinking they would gain money from them, all I got was all my mums paintings as they were going to throw them. I will upload a couple for you to see them, they are quite large not small as they look on the photos. They seem not to want a part of my mum, but material things.

16 Sep, 2009

That's the way lots of people are unfortunately :o(

16 Sep, 2009

Yes sad is nt it.

16 Sep, 2009

Just caught up again Hywel...Your the same age as me then......With the big one looming!........

16 Sep, 2009

Yes - next year :o(
I only feel about 8 in my mind ... lol

16 Sep, 2009

I think we all do Hywel I have 5 yrs to go that s if I ever reach that age which I am doubtful he he ha ha.

16 Sep, 2009

So do I Hywel, well maybe 16, except when I dig the veggie patch over ...or dig out fish ponds........Lol Morgana dont wish it away...it goes fast enough......

16 Sep, 2009

lol I know it does Milky I am not wishing it I am looking at it logicaly.

16 Sep, 2009

Why is it logical to think you'll be dead before you're 60 Morgana. ?

16 Sep, 2009

Yes why Morgana?

16 Sep, 2009

Cause I am in a wheel chair, which shorten s your life and you are suseptable to kidney infections normally what kills wheel chair people as your legs when walking control your bowls and water functions plus I smoke.

16 Sep, 2009

I bet you'll live to 100 Morgana :o)
You're like what my gran called a 'creeking gate' - it was always shaking but never fell off.

I used to work with disabled people and most were in their 80s

16 Sep, 2009

lol Hywell I have osteoarthritis with impingements on my spine, they gave me a hip resurfacing which has made my back worse and now my hip and leg is worse than before also my other hip is going to, and I refuse any treatment, as for 2 yrs they were calling me a liar about my back until they gave me an mri scan, I was not allowed to twist bend and had to lie on my back for 3 months not to turn, 3 days after the operation the physio came and yanked my leg which was operated on and twisted my body so I don't trust them one bit, I also have angina.

16 Sep, 2009

Like I said I used to work with disabled people - many worse than you are. Most of them were in their 80s and some in their 90s. So try and be a bit more optimistic and look on the positive side. Any one of us could die tomorrow but the chances are we won't.

16 Sep, 2009

lol Hywel I am a positive person on a whole, especially for others, you are right, I had my sister crying to me the other day thinking her grand daughter of 5 was going to die, I was the positive one and told her don't be stupid its proberbly an infection and hay it was. :o))))))

16 Sep, 2009

:o)))

16 Sep, 2009

Thank you Hywel

16 Sep, 2009

17 Sep, 2009

18 Sep, 2009

Thanks Pansy...............

18 Sep, 2009

Was Dad in the Navy by any chance lol

19 Sep, 2009

Davey.....My Dad absolutely loved the sea. all his life til the day he died...So much so, that at his funeral, the music that all us 5 kids, thought summed him up best was Rod Stewart..."I am sailing" a song that I just cant listen to any more. When He got shrapnel in his eyes and the British Navy didnt want hi,m anymore, he went over to ASustrailia, and joined the navy over there .......Thats how much he loved the sea............

19 Sep, 2009

Thanks for sharing this Milky he sounds a wonderful man, your Mum looked wonderful too imho.

21 Sep, 2009

Thanks Davey....he was a wonderful man, as we all think about our Mum's and Dad's

21 Sep, 2009

Thanks for sharing this moment in time with us Milky. I have quite a few old photos. I have put Gran and Grandads wedding photo in a frame. She was born within the sound of Bow Bells London and he was a Yorkshire man and he spoke to her at the garden gate and so the romance blossomed.

22 Sep, 2009

Aw Lindak....isnt that sweet...........Those were the days.......the simple pleasures in life...

22 Sep, 2009

My grandad was an upholsterer and had a tin shack at the bottom of the garden where he did some of his work. I used to go and watch him spit the tacks out one at a time and tap them into the furniture. He taught me a bit about gardening and was very tolerant and kind. My sister and I used to sit on his lap and comb his hair into a plait as he grew it long to cover his bald patch. I can remember the old valve radio that hummed when you switched it on. Archie Andrews, Workers Playtime Desert Island Discs.

23 Sep, 2009

Billy Cotton Band show, The Glums....Navy Lark........Oh yes Lindak...I remeber them well........

23 Sep, 2009

I'm glad to have lived as I have it has taught me a lot about life and the fact that it's not what you have but it's the person you are and the heart that you have for others.

24 Sep, 2009

Very aptly put Lindak......I couldnt have put it better....

24 Sep, 2009

Another lovely photo Milky and don't forget you'll qualify for a free bus pass! so that's something to look forward to:-) Of course with all this talk about "cuts" whichever party is in power may abandon the free passes just as you qualify:-( Lindak, Desert Island Discs is still on radio 4 if you're feeling nostalgic:-)

25 Sep, 2009

Trust you to mention the bus Pass Bornagain.......I have just got my letter from War and Pensions telling me to apply for my pension........let alone a bus pass.....

25 Sep, 2009

:-))

25 Sep, 2009

My wife got her bus pass last month she went out every day for the 1st 2 weeks.
On the subject of grandparents it was my Grandfather who started my interest in gardening he had a large greenhouse (well it seemed large but remember I was very little) he would grow tomatoes with the ring culture system ie pots with no bottoms on a gravel bed water the bed & feed the pots he would sell these along with scores of geraniums to local shops he had a large vegatable garden small orchard, my own father never seemed to get on with him but to me he was wonderful.

26 Sep, 2009

Isnt it funny how we idolise our grandparents.....I wonder if its because in general, they let us get away with far more than our parents did......Maybe your Dad was a little in awe of what his own Father achieved, and I mean that in the nicest possible way.....Or maybe you imagined it Davey. Perhaps he was just rebuking his Dad for letting you get away with murder Lol.......

26 Sep, 2009

No from what I understand my Grandfather was a very thrifty man & had saved money but refused to help out my Fathers financial mess & there was sibling rivalry one child being given a piano & the other promised the car but Dad never got it.... how true it was I dont know but there were bad feelings for years, I remember as a kid being on holiday in St Anns & spotting my Grandparents but not being allowed to speak to them.

27 Sep, 2009

Family.s what can you do with them.......Sometimes they make you wanna scream dont they Davey. Life is to short for bitterness......
