This is a new one - the 'Rubella' is a lot redder. It'll be interesting to see what it's like when the flowers do open.

One of mine has gone a bit 'leggy' as it was struggling for space - any tips on pruning?
19 Oct, 2009
Well - not now, Dawn! I think you could prune it after it's flowered, but they're not supposed to need pruning, so don't go too mad.

Thanks Barbara, I neglected it unfortunately and the leaves are a bit sparse and there's alot of wood showing. I'll wait until its flowered then and take a couple of inches off.

I have one that got 'thugged' by the Jap. Anemones - it has no flowers this year. I'm amazed it survived at all!

I've found you can take cuttings from them quite easily, which I've done again this year.

Really ?? When and how, please!

I usually take them the third week in July - about 4 inches long, I cut under a leaf joint- from a new shoot that's soft but hardening at the bottom, I leave 1 or 2 leaves at the top, tip them in hormone rooter and I pop them in the cold frame, in a shaded spot.

Ta muchly, Dawn - do you mind if I copy and paste that info??
19 Oct, 2009
Of course not, no need to ask - this way has worked for me. I must take a look at mine tomorrow to see how they are doing.

Thanks - I've pasted it as a 'reminder' next to one of my Skimmias! :-))
