Reclaimed Wetland

Reclaimed Wetland

This area was cleared out and filled for migrating birds and such. We have problems with them going to the airport so here they can be safe and we can watch them. Very successful venture. And some reare cattails. :-)

Thanks. It has worked well. A great bird watchers spot, there are all sorts of ducks and geese, some snipes and the little wading birds. Frogs in spring and the cattails. I love seeing them. There are little stand of a few, but a spread like this is unusual. The snipe makes a wild whirly sound when it dives, flying in circles.

We had to do something, there are so many migratory species that come through as well.

do they make this noise when they are diving through the air ..the Snipes? after bugs ..there is a bird here that makes an odd noise like that too..snipe sounds a bit familiar..i used to see one when I lived in the woods ..it flew way above the tree tops and as it dove it make a noise like that..I do not see them here in town...

That is probably a snipe Cat. The sound is actually something they do with their wings when they dive. I would expect they are feeding, no other reason to dive unless the just like broadcasting their presence. They are known for being hard to find, shy and more rural. We used to go on snipe hunts, where you send people out looking for snipes, but your really just wasting their time. :-) Old camp trick. I'd thought they weren't real..lol...being tricked enough times.
