It'll certainly be a test of my patience, Joan! I've also got Tree Paeony seeds that take 2 years to germinate!!
I've always loved lilies, especially the big white ones!

So do I!!! Yesterday if possible!! Thats what I mean about a test! My garden's all new though, so I just HAVE to wait for it to establish!

Lol, Sandra, they take 2 years just to sprout! Not sure how many to flower (I'll try to remember where I got the info & recheck it) but I DO know that the Giant Lily takes a good few years to flower, then dies, but sets off shoots first!
Joan, I love Salvias! I've been collecting seed from mine! Not got hotlips though, its gorgeous! Thats the one that looks like its wearing lipstick, isnt it?

its better with a new garden as your starting from scratch better than inheriting plants, you can put in exactly what you choose and experiment to see which you like best

this is about a ft high mari, so not sure how old it is, got it in spring and thought i would have at least one flower this year, never mind im not going anywhere, will have to wait and see :o)

Lol! I'm trying to do that, though I get given plants too, & wouldn't get rid unless they were really horrid! Luckily my dad gives me roses!

What a monster are those feeding instructions behind it ?

just read about a woman in devon who had one growing in her garden, to 6 ft, said it looked like a sad lettuce then started growing several inches a day till 6 ft, no flowers but came back the next year to same height and flowered to, said because of our climat change if it was going to grow here would be down in devon, so look after it mari cause you get the cold up there,

Lol, Ray! That's a baby one!! You feed them small boys!!
San, I might put it in the shed this winter, its in its pot in the raised bed, so it'll be easy to do. They grow to 8 feet! & if they can survive in Pitlochry, they'll be ok here, its 20 miles North of here!
2 Nov, 2009
good luck with it then mari, :o))
2 Nov, 2009
Lol! Ta! How you feeling?
3 Nov, 2009
Sue bought me one several years ago for my birthday.
It didn't do much the first year, probably only a couple of foot.
The next year, 8 foot tall and flowers!
Now the sad bit - the bulb dies after flowering.
However, empty the pot out & collect the offsets. Put them in individual pots & grow on. If you don't do as I did & let them get cold AND wet, in about 5 or 6 years you should have flowering plants again.

lucky you, great plant Marie.

Thanks meanie, but I live in Scotland! Cold & wet is the normal weather here!
3 Nov, 2009

I left mine outside & it came back with vigour.
The important thing is not to let them get wet when it's cold, frost they live with. It behaves the same as any other hardy bulb otherwise.
You've inspired me to get a couple more!
