My little Rowan

Oh, poor little Rowan needing wellie boots !

Lol. Think, you'll have to buy many pairs of wellies for a year...and every year...It's like a child - growing fast! :)

It might have done it good if it had a dry summer , lets hope so !

Dry summers, what are those? I've always had a Rowan (Sorbus aucuparia) growing by tthe garden gate, to protect us from witches (and door-to-door salesfolk!). Have always associated it with "The North", and grown them since about age 7. I do think that your tree will be fine, Gee. If not, I can send you a plantation! :-))

I do hope you are right, David, as I have wanted this little tree for such a long time and only planted it about 2 weeks ago!! A plantation of them sounds lovely - think of all the wild birds they would attract :)

We had a dry summer David , the rain we are getting now is almost the first for eons .....

You might end up with a plantation, Gee, if this one little beauty gets going - and am sure it will!!! They are fab for the wildlife (not just the birds). There is a saying that the earlier the berries appear, the worse winter will be. Nowadays, the berries are always red in August here, which does seem to be earlier than I used to remember, but this doesn't "hold water" (sorry for that bad pun!). If you can get to the berries before the birds, you can make a lovely Rowan jelly, too. Have just PMd Amblealice, re including this lovely tree in her "Folklore" page on GOYpedia. If your tree doesn't, buy some remote chance, make it through this recent deluge, do let me know! Will be happy to send you more! :-))

In fact, if you have a Homebase store near you, you can currently pick up, and walk out with, a Rowan sapling (one of several trees) for free!! If you have a nearby store, visit and read the literature. All you have to do, if you want, is plant it on Dec. 5! :-))

That's interesting about Homebase, David. We do have one but not near enough for me to get to without transport! My little tree grows upwards and not out so will fit into my garden nicely (I hope). I think the spread of some of the others might be too big.

I don't think the water level will bother it much Gee. They are quite tough trees.

Well, I've been down and given it another talking to and told it how nice spring and summer is in my garden so it should be feeling happier :)

Hope your little rowan is ok..... ihave a small silverbirch tree.......its been waterlogged for ages with all the rain......
