Quite a small one compared to many there, Bernie - never seen so many logs, lol.

Wow, what a neat pile.
Don't pull out one from the bottom of the pile...Lol.

Are they for open fireplaces? Obviously my severely limited understanding on living through a winter is obvious!

They are for modern woodburning stoves which most houses have, Bernie. They have a lot of snow for several months every winter - far more than here in the UK.
The wood is larch, spruce and miscellaneous other pines grown as a crop.
You can take one from the bottom so long as it's in the middle, Terra. :>)))

Looks like a modern work of art, and much more attractive than some of those in galleries :)

They are beautiful, Gee as are the houses and the scenery in that part of Gernany.

I have some photos like this Wagger taken in France last year .. we asked about them and were told that each village has a number , they can go up to the wood / forest to the area that has that number and are allowed to have the wood from there , they must only take it from their own Number which is allocated to them .........

Can you imagine that in this country, Amy? 1. The council or government would want to charge you for it in some way. 2. How many people here would stick to their own number? 3. Those who didn't need it would probably take it anyway and try to sell it at an extortionate price.

I would prefer hardwood, Marguerite but as my supply of pine, etc is free I make best use of that. The ash is good in the garden particularly around fruit bushes in the spring.

What a good idea, such a neat pile, what I could do with that, would keep us going for months.....Amy I really would have to buy a stove then?
